About CAPACares

CAPACares (formerly Child Abuse Prevention Association) has served the greater Kansas City community since 1975. Our mission: to prevent and treat all forms of child abuse by creating changes in individuals families and society that strengthen relationships and promote healing. We provide traumainformed mental health counseling family support services and prevention educationserving nearly 2000 individuals annually in a culturally responsive strengthsbased way.

Position Summary

The Vice President of Fundraising and Grants Management serves as a key member of the administrative team and an active participant in strategic decisions affecting partnership with the President and CEO this position is responsible for leading the organizations fundraising strategies including grant acquisition individual and corporate donor engagement and fund development operations that support the mission and financial sustainability of CAPACares.

The Vice President of Fundraising and Grants Management will oversee the identification of funding opportunities lead the writing and submission of grant proposals cultivate relationships with institutional and individual funders and ensure effective stewardship and management of awarded funds. This leader will also support the Board Resource Development Committee in advancing philanthropic support for CAPACares services and programs.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions

Strategic Grant Leadership

  • Lead identify and submit government corporate and private foundation grant proposals with annual grant and contract goals in the $to $range.
  • Manage full grant cycleproposal development submission compliance and stewardship; collaborate with finance and program staff to ensure accurate reporting and fund utilization.

Comprehensive Fundraising Strategy

  • Design and implement a development strategy for expanding individual corporate and civic giving that encompasses major gifts sponsorships and special campaigns targeting restricted and unrestricted contributions in the $780000 to $800000 range.
  • Oversee donor communications including written appeals engagement touchpoints and stewardship plans.
  • Lead planning and execution of fundraising events aligned with strategic priorities; manage sponsor acquisition logistics and postevent donor followup with event revenue goals between $150000 and $200000.

Donor Relationship Management

  • Partner with the President & CEO to cultivate relationships with current and prospective donors and funders. Represent CAPACares in meetings community events and pitch opportunities.
  • Maintain and optimize the donor database for accurate tracking of contributions grant awards and donor engagement.
  • Provide regular reporting and data analysis to the President and CEO and the Board Resource Development Committee.

Board Engagement

  • Support the Board Resource Development Committee with fundraising strategies donor networking and major gift planning.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Supervise and mentor direct report(s) balancing strategic leadership with handson contribution.
  • Advance CAPACares missionpromoting healing strengthening relationships and preventing trauma in our community.
  • Align efforts with CAPACares strategic plan meeting assigned objectives and outcomes.
  • Protect confidentiality of all consumer and organizational information (NPI PHI donor data).
  • Stay current with non-profit development fundraising and grant writing best practices through continuing education and professional development.
  • Additional responsibilities will be assigned as needed to maintain and improve effective functioning of the department and to advance the mission of the organization.
  • All job responsibilities will be carried out under the direction of agency policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Nonprofit Management Business Administration Public Administration or related field. Equivalent professional experience in lieu of a degree may be considered.
  • Minimum five years of professional development or fundraising experience in a nonprofit setting with demonstrated success required; eight years of experience preferred.
  • Proven track record of securing and managing grants from government agencies foundations and corporations.
  • Experience with donor cultivation and stewardship strategies including individual and major gifts.
  • Strong written communication skills including grant writing donor correspondence and funder reports.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Donor Dock and/or other donor database platforms required; experience with Apricot or similar CRM tools preferred.
  • Familiarity with and commitment to ethical fundraising practices and donor confidentiality.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel locally for funder and donor meetings.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary: $101210 $119202 (based on experience)
  • Schedule: Monday Friday 8:00 am 5:00 pm. Occasional evenings or weekends based on agency need.

  • All CAPACares staff must sign a confidentiality agreement and conflict of interest agreement.
  • CAPACares does not allow for the use of recreational drugs vaping or any habit-forming substances that can impair performance.

Evaluation and Review

  • Performance evaluation will be based on the degree to which the Essential Job Functions outlined above are completed.
  • Meeting and exceeding the expectations outlined above in the Essential Job Functions may result in additional compensation as a performance bonus.

  • Supervises: Marketing and Communications Specialist
  • Other contacts: Staff board volunteers funders donors media vendors etc.
