The Engineering Team at LILT

LILT is a high-performance large-scale language translation system. We invest in and prioritize workflow (i.e. usability and interface design) and backend AI systems. Since the translation workforce is distributed worldwide there are interesting cloud engineering problems to solve. We have a strong preference for building our own backend technology so youll be implementing and working with the latest natural language processing (NLP) techniques and ideas.

Where Youll Work

This position is based our of Washington D.C. Additional locations can include New York City or Boston metropolitan areas where you will start as fully remote and then transition to hybrid once offices are opened in those locations.

What youll do

As a Senior Full Stack Engineer you will work with a group of talented mission-driven colleagues to propose ideas to define drive and execute projects on Lilts Linguist GUI App Server and backend systems. You will enable linguists to deliver truly localized experiences. Engineering is at the forefront of the company strategy therefore this is a high-visibility high-impact role with enormous growth opportunities.

You must be curious have attention to detail be energized by a challenging entrepreneurial environment be comfortable thinking big while also diving deep and be open to experimenting and iterating on processes as the company grows.

Key Responsibilities

• Bachelor of Science or Masters of Science in Computer Science (Masters preferred)

• 7 years of professional experience as a Fullstack engineer

• Experience leading an engineering team in a technical capacity (e.g. not a manager of people)

• Experience working on large-scale distributed software systems

• Proficient in React or other associated libraries JavaScript CSS and HTML

• Experience with backend technologies such as Java and Python

• Solid relational database knowledge and significant experience with very large MySQL installations are highly valued

• Basic knowledge of NLP and machine learning techniques is highly valued

• Professional fluency in English

Our founders Spence and John met at Google working on Google Translate. As researchers at Stanford and Berkeley they both worked on language technology to make information accessible to everyone. While together at Google they were amazed to learn that Google Translate wasnt used for enterprise products and services inside the quality just wasnt there. So they set out to build something better. LILT was born.

LILT has been a machine learning company since its founding in 2015. At the time machine translation didnt meet the quality standard for enterprise translations so LILT assembled a cutting-edge research team tasked with closing that gap. While meeting customer demand for translation services LILT has prioritized investments in Large Language Models human-in-the-loop systems and now agentic AI.
