EPIC Academy is a CPS neighborhood charter high school that opened fall of 2009 in the South Chicago community with the mission to inspire and equip every student to build a path to college and career success. We embrace the challenge of public education - to develop every students resolve to reach his or her full potential regardless of the odds. EPIC Academy serves one of the most challenged student demographics in Chicago: 96% Free/reduced lunch 21% Students with IEPs 15% English Language Learners. The prevailing area expectation is to graduate high school and get a job.

Position Overview:
Epic Academy is seeking a dedicated and dynamic 12th Grade Physics Teacher to inspire and challenge students through engaging rigorous instruction. The ideal candidate is committed to fostering a love for physics setting high expectations and supporting students in achieving academic excellence.
Essential Functions:
Instructional Planning & Delivery
- Develop and implement written lesson plans aligned with the instructional programs objectives and curriculum standards.
- Apply contemporary principles of learning theory and teaching methodology to deliver effective and engaging physics instruction.
- Incorporate a variety of instructional materials strategies and technology to meet diverse learning needs.
- Participate in developing and implementing innovative teaching techniques.
- Provide bulletin boards and classroom displays that reflect students current work and curriculum topics.
Classroom Management & Student Development
- Establish and maintain clear positive learning expectations and behavioral standards.
- Maintain accurate and current student attendance achievement and seating charts.
- Encourage self-discipline a positive self-concept and respect among students.
- Promote anti-vandalism initiatives and programs to improve student attendance.
- Ensure a safe orderly learning environment consistent with Epic Academys Uniform Discipline Code.
Student Assessment & Communication
- Regularly evaluate student progress using multiple assessment methods.
- Communicate academic progress attendance and conduct concerns with parents/guardians in a timely manner.
- Initiate appropriate conferences with parents administrators and/or support staff as needed.
Collaboration & Professional Development
- Participate in professional learning communities staff meetings and in-service training.
- Collaborate with colleagues to enhance instructional practices and curriculum design.
- Utilize community resources to enrich instruction and support student learning.
Additional Duties
- Coordinate and attend field trips to enhance learning experiences.
- Participate in extra-curricular or after-school programs as needed.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelors degree in Physics Science Education or related field required.
- Certification: Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with Science endorsement strongly preferred; flexibility in certification for high-need areas such as science.
