Are you passionate about inclusive education and helping students reach their full potential Indian River State College is seeking a compassionate and dynamic Instructional Coordinator to support students with intellectual disabilities in achieving academic and career this impactful role youll design and deliver engaging instruction provide personalized academic support and foster independence for students pursuing occupational certificates.

JOB SUMMARY:

Under general direction this position works with students who have documented intellectual disabilities and have the motivation to attend college to earn occupational certificates and achieve employment. Develops and delivers instruction to participants of Project STAGE at various campuses of the College. Duties include: developing instructional content appropriate for students with intellectual disabilities delivering instructional content in an engaging and informative manner providing academic support for students in their college classes by incorporating academic skills into instructional content; being patient and encouraging students to become independent learners; providing additional individual support as a tutor for students; and maintaining a safe and effective classroom environment.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees and supervises students in classroom and community setting ensuring a safe and productive learning environment.
  • Delivers engaging and effective instruction to enhance student learning and success.
  • Effective classroom performance including accurate completion of student files records and grades for IRSC and appropriate certification agencies.
  • Meets classes on time and be properly prepared notifies the Program Director and Dean when ill or unable to meet such classes and fill out such state and College forms as required to cover the absence(s).
  • Develops program and curriculum to include but not limited to academic skills employability skills social skills soft skills self-advocacy and independent living skills.
  • Advises and supports students of Project STAGE.
  • Instructs classes for Project STAGE (multiple campus assignments).
  • Tutors Project STAGE students in the areas of their weaknesses.
  • Responsible to his/her Dean for effective classroom performance including accurate completion and timely submission of grades.
  • Prepares and provides all lecture and practical instruction according to the required curriculum.
  • Develops course outlines objectives and evaluation mechanisms for the program.
  • Increases use of educational technology instruction.
  • Maintains a lesson plan of daily instructional events a copy of which is to be kept in the Deans office;
  • Monitors student attendance and retention and document as required by the administration;
  • Grades assignments return graded assignments to students and assign final grades for all students in a timely manner;
  • Complies monitors and maintains all safety procedures and best practices as required.
  • Performs duties required to maintain a viable program.
  • Participates in applicable departmental divisional and general meetings; meets weekly with Project Director;
  • Maintains own professional development related to individual professional and institutional needs;
  • Adheres to all IRSC policies and procedures;
  • Complies with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA 34 CFR Part 99);
  • Completes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors degree in a related teaching discipline;
  • Two (2) years of related experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities; or any equivalent combination of education training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge skills and abilities for this job;
  • Must meet the appropriate credentialing requirements for the Southern Association for Colleges and Schools (SACS);
  • Knowledge of development and delivery of educational programs and maintaining student records;
  • Must be self-motivated to ensure instruction is engaging and effective for students to meet learning objectives and thrive in a social and academic environment;
  • Skill in working with Microsoft Office based applications;
  • Skill in organizing prioritizing time management problem solving and using resources effectively;
  • Ability to pay attention to details apply good judgement make decisions collaborate with others maintain confidentiality work independently as well as with others multi-task and be self-motivated.
  • Valid Florida Driver License and insured personal vehicle IRSC does not provide a vehicle for this position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical requirements for this position include:

Ability to regularly lift and or move up to 50 pounds frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; Ability to safely lift hold and carry up to 50 pounds of supplies and/or equipment needed for student training; Manual dexterity and balance required for demonstrating applications; Demonstration of appropriate skills as required by curriculum and standards; Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time walk bend lift reach with hands and arms and stoop; Ability to maintain and/or troubleshoot all lab equipment in the lab; Ability to bend down and get on knees while performing different techniques; Ability to present verbal lectures/demonstrations; Vision abilities sufficient to include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus; Excellent Hand-Eye coordination skills required to demonstrate appropriate skills required of the program; Ability to travel to and pick up miscellaneous supplies from local vendors for materials for student training and make good purchasing decisions or substitutions; Physically demonstrate new and unique methods and materials; IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
