Who we are
Research in the Vasconcelos lab () is focused on cardiovascular disease and diabetes with the aim of developing cell-based vascularization strategies for regenerative medicine applications. These include engineered tissues for replacement therapies disease modeling and organ-on-a-chip engineering. Our ultimate goal is to develop new treatments for heart disease and diabetes.

What we are looking for
A driven motivated postdoctoral fellow to work on a project related to 3D bioprinting of human hearts as part of the project MaVen (). The start date for this position is Sep 2025.
The Postdoctoral Researcher will:
- Develop a vascularized 3D bioprinted heart ventricle
- Scale up the established ventricle
- Functionally characterize printed ventricles in terms of survival force of contraction optical mapping etc.
- Perform immunohistological analysis of the printed ventricles.
- Work with collaborators to model ventricle perfusion and function in silico
- Develop a bioreactor to support the bioprinted ventricles
- Establish long-term perfusion of the ventricles in vitro
Qualifications :
- Received a PHD degree within the past 3 years.
- Experience with 3D bioprinting
- Experience with human iPSCs/ESCs endothelial cells and/or cardiomyocytes
- Experience in immunohistochemistry
- Effective organizational time management and prioritization skills
- Strong problem recognition and problem-solving skills
- Strong verbal and written communications skills
- Ability to effectively work as part of a team
The following would be considered as valuable assets:
- Background in cardiovascular research
- Experience in FRESH bioprinting
- Experience developing and using bioreactor for large construct perfusion
- Experience in optical mapping techniques
