About the Role
As a Tutor Sonographer, you will play a pivotal role in both clinical practice and education, contributing to the development of postgraduate and undergraduate student sonographers, while also supporting the continued professional growth of current staff. The role includes a combination of clinical scanning duties and the education and mentorship of trainee sonographers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering 1:1 clinical training to postgraduate student sonographers and offering support throughout their full 24-month program
- Overseeing independent scanning support, scan time targets, and skill progression
- Coordinating student diary management using RIS and ensuring workflow optimisation that meets both clinical learning objectives and operational demands
- Supporting and acting in their absence, maintaining continuity in training and supervision
- Conducting monthly check-ins and competency assessments, tracking and documenting progress through platforms like Microsoft Planner
- Providing feedback and reporting on student performance, professional behaviour, and patient care in alignment with IDX values
- Taking on undergraduate students for clinical blocks 5-20 weeks) and ensuring their smooth integration into practice
- Participating in regular IDX tutor meetings, training sessions, and using IDX Connect's customised support materials for continuous improvement
- Maintaining a balance between teaching and clinical scanning, typically managing 16 patients/day on clinical days

What You'll Bring
We're looking for a skilled and dedicated professional who thrives on teaching and mentoring in a dynamic clinical environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Graduate Diploma or Master of Medical Sonography (ASAR-accredited)
- Minimum 5 years' clinical sonography experience
- Proven experience and passion for mentoring, coaching, or clinical supervision
- Strong understanding of ultrasound physics, anatomy, scanning techniques, and patient positioning
- High standards of technical competence and accuracy in diagnostic ultrasound
- Proficient in RIS/PACS, SonoReview, and familiarity with digital reporting platforms
- Excellent organisational skills - especially around time management, prioritisation, and diary optimisation
- Effective communication with students, patients, radiologists, and wider teams
- Commitment to continuous professional development and clinical best practice
