Job Description

  • Part Time (0.7 FTE 53.2 hours per fortnight) ongoing
  • 1 x role based in Melton
  • Leading LGBTQIA community services organisation

About the role

We have an opportunity for a LGBTQIA Lived Experience Mental Health Peer Worker to join Thorne Harbour Healths Mental Health program. Based at Melton this key role will:

  • Provide empathetic and non-judgmental peer support to individuals and their families (including chosen family) and/or support networks.
  • Advocate for the rights and wellbeing of the LGBTQIA community promoting peer-led initiatives and empowering individuals.
  • Collaborate effectively with clinical staff multidisciplinary teams and external partner organisations.
  • Implement trauma-informed peer support practices.
  • Participate in co-design and co-production initiatives

In addition to your salary of SCHADS Level 4 (pro-rata) and superannuation Thorne Harbour also pays above award. About you

You will have a Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or a similar qualification. You will also bring to the role:

  • Personal lived experience within the LGBTQIA community demonstrating resilience and a commitment to mental health and wellbeing.
  • Personal lived experience of engaging with the mental health sector as a consumer.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust establish rapport and maintain compassionate and supportive relationships.
  • An understanding of and affinity with the communities we serve.
  • Ability to advocate for the rights and wellbeing of the LGBTIQA community promoting peer-led support and empowerment.
