Job Description

TheMPH Course Assistantsupports course instructors in delivering high-quality academic experiences and maintaining an engaging inclusive learning environment. This is a paid hybrid role that involves attending assigned classes based on the needs of the course director and working closely with students and faculty to support instruction and administration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as course assistant for both VTPEH 6184 and VTPEH 6194
  • Proctor and Grade 3 in class- quizzes VTPEH 6184
  • Mentor assigned set of students for their final product including associated grading VTPEH 6184
  • Draft weekly optional content mastery checks for students VTPEH 6184
  • Coordinate with external partners for partner project VTPEH 6184
  • Host weekly office hours VTPEH 6184
  • Attend classes as discussed with course directors.
  • Participate in a weekly meeting for each course
  • Check assignments for completion
  • Set up zoom sessions when needed for remote guest lecturers
  • Coordinate with guest lectures
  • Meet with students individually or in small groups during or outside class time
  • Prepare and maintain course materials
  • Support course administration and the learning management system (Canvas)
  • Assist with program events data management and troubleshooting technical issues
  • Perform additional tasks as requested such as guide small groups during in-class activities monitor progress prompt discussion and answer questions

Qualifications

  • Must be available to attend class sessions as directed by course instructor
  • Must have earned an A or higher in the course they are applying to support
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Experience with Canvas or similar platforms is a plus

Position Details

  • Compensation: $25/hour
  • Hours: Minimum of 27 hours per week with potential for additional hours based on business needs. Positions are expected to begin on August 22 and end on December 22nd.
  • Location: In-person at Cornell University Ithaca NY College of Veterinary Medicine Department of Public & Ecosystem Health
  • Work Modality: Hybrid (attend class as discussed with course directors; grading and other administrative support may be handled in person or remotely; meeting with students may be handled in person or remotely)
  • Supervisors: Dr. Amelia Greiner Safi for VTPEH 6184 and Audrey Baker for VTPEH 6194
