Duties and Responsibilities
Under general supervision teaches a range of developmental and transfer-level English composition courses and performs other teaching-related duties that include but are not limited to planning organizing and independently carrying out instructional and non-instructional assignments.
Prepares course syllabi collects data and prepares reports related to teaching and student progress.
Maintains office hours for academic advising and conferring with students about coursework (one office hour per week per three-credit class).
Designs delivers and assesses instruction in terms of course competencies and student learning outcomes; participates in department and/or institutional assessments of student learning.
Develops and updates curriculum teaching methods materials and assessment strategies to improve student learning based on assessment results.
Participates and complies with collaborative departmental decisions regarding instructional matters such as texts assignments placement and grading standards.
Performs related work as assigned. Related work activities include but are not limited to
assisting in campus or institution-related activities;
developing and maintaining a professional self-improvement plan
participating in faculty/administrative committees community service and in-service training as appropriate.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Masters in English;OR
Masters in English Composition Rhetoric or English Literature;OR
Masters in Fine Arts (Creative Writing)
Desirable Qualifications
Community college teaching experience in developmental English education and corequisite developmental education.
Community college teaching experience in college-level English composition.
Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS) and instructional technologies.
Experience developing curriculum for English Composition courses including Composition II and Business Writing.
Experience conducting course learning outcome assessments and using assessment data to improve instruction.
Demonstrated teaching effectiveness in English composition using various course delivery formats (e.g. in-person hybrid online).
Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with peers department chairs and administrators.
Demonstrated ability to write clear prose as substantiated by publications or writing samples and ability to communicate effectively verbally.
Demonstrated ability to initiate execute and complete projects including setting specific objectives and measuring results.
Understanding of and experience working with a diverse student population including Native Hawaiian students adult students students with disabilities students with a wide range of abilities English language learners and students from various cultural and economic backgrounds.
