Job Description

As a Registered Practical Nurse working in the North Wellington Crisis Role you will be an integral part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team focused on delivering seamless services to our clients and customers. In this role you will drive daily from location to location using your personal vehicle therefore requiring you to possess a valid drivers license and proof of business class insurance.

Hours: Monday to Friday alternating weeks working 0800-1600 & 1100-1800

Internal applications for this position within the UFCW bargaining unit must be received within 7 days of being posted to have seniority considered in the selection process.

This position is temporary full time posting to cover a 12 month leave.

What youll be doing:

  • Provide nursing assessments within the North Wellington area to clients with addiction and/or a variety of mental health diagnoses
  • Contribute to fluctuating patient care needs according to the CNO standards RNAO Best Practice Guidelines specific program philosophy and diversified patient populations
  • Complete clinical and risk assessments on an on-going basis and manage aggressive behaviour through non-violent crisis intervention techniques
  • Manage client care plan adapting care to individual client needs
  • Deliver competent holistic care addressing the bio-psycho-social and spiritual needs of clients their families the community and co-workers
  • Administer psychiatric and non-psychiatric medications and treatments
  • Engage with interdisciplinary teams and individual team members as appropriate
  • Contribute to fluctuating patient care needs according to CNO standards RNAO Best Practice Guidelines specific program philosophy and diversified patient populations

What were looking for:

  • Licensed as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Mental Health Nursing certificate preferred
  • 2 years recent experience in Emergency Mental Health/Acute Assessment preferred
  • Strong assessment skills
  • Working knowledge of Mental Health Act and community mental health resources
  • Proven excellence in communication problem solving conflict resolution and organizational skills
  • Proven ability and skill in working independently and as a part of an innovative interdisciplinary team
  • CPR/Basic rescuer
  • Ability to prioritize and function effectively in a demanding and challenging environment
  • Highly skilled in assessment and treatment of psychiatric disorders including PTSD suicide prevention and the management of aggressive behaviour
  • Current knowledge and experience specific to emergency mental health and crisis intervention and concurrent disorders
  • Knowledge and experience using CBT DBT and motivational interviewing techniques
  • Valid drivers license business class insurance and own vehicle for travelling between sites
