The Opportunity
The System Design East (SDE) team is seeking a highly experienced gas hydraulic modeling specialist to support the Capacity Management department. This expert-level role is responsible for providing advanced technical support for hydraulic modeling maintaining modeling software and databases and contributing to strategic initiatives and R&D efforts.
Reporting to the Manager System Design East the successful candidate will provide guidance and technical leadership to engineers working across the Canadian Natural Gas business footprint including Coastal GasLink NGTL Foothills Mainline and TQM systems. This role requires deep technical expertise cross-functional collaboration and a strong understanding of commercial and operational drivers.
What youll do
Provide expert-level guidance on gas hydraulic simulation design criteria probability and risk assessment and technical and operational viability
Support complex hydraulic simulations including troubleshooting and optimization
Deliver foundational training in gas pipelines and hydraulic modeling to junior/new team members
Maintain and enhance the GeoFind Hydraulic Database ensuring high standards of data quality and validation
Lead innovation efficiency and process improvement initiatives and R&D projects in alignment with technical and commercial objectives.
Collaborate with IS and third-party vendors to update and maintain Synergi Gas software ensuring seamless integration with internal tools processes and customizations.
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical leadership within the team.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline (Mechanical Chemical Electrical preferred)
Minimum 15 years of progressive relevant experience (an alternate combination of education or experience may be considered)
In-depth knowledge of TC Energy integrated Canadian gas pipeline systems
Expertise in gas pipeline hydraulic simulation and the ability to apply this knowledge to develop facility and capacity recommendations
Advanced problem-solving and critical thinking skills with exceptional attention to detail
Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information and analyze data
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to present technical findings to diverse audiences
Proven ability to work collaboratively and provide mentorship to others
Registered or eligible to be registered as a P. Eng. (Professional Engineer) with APEGAin good standing
Preferred Qualifications
Strong business acumen with knowledge of system operations & maintenance gas markets pipeline infrastructure and regulatory requirements
Comprehensive knowledge of pipeline and facility infrastructure including compressor station systems and components
Demonstrated leadership in driving initiatives that enhance analysis methodologies data integrity and improved commercial outcomes
Expertise in developing and applying probabilistic risk models to assess system reliability performance and risk exposure
Experience in programming languages (e.g. Python) for data analysis model development and automation.
