Job Description

What We Can Achieve Together:

The Impact Finance & Markets division (IFM) at The Nature Conservancy provides technical and strategic leadership to create transformational impact with the private sector by translating the value of nature and conservation approaches into actionable science-based strategies that can help solve societal challenges. The Sustainable Debt Team (a sub-team of IFM) collaborates with TNCs global conservation teams and country offices to help achieve TNCs 2030 goals by structuring and implementing sovereign debt solutions that generate new funding for conservation and enable governments to make and achieve ambitious conservation policy commitments such as in the 2021 Blue Bond in Belize the 2022 Blue Bond in Barbados the 2023 Blue Bonds in Gabon and the 2024 Nature Bonds project in Bahamas and Ecuador.

The Intern will support the Sustainable Debt team on Nature Bonds projects by assisting the team with financial modeling and related analysis in connection with business development internal approvals financing processes and post-close monitoring. Through aiding on Nature Bonds transactions the Intern will have the opportunity to develop their financial modelling project management financial analysis and communication skills. The Intern will also develop market knowledge of the international development finance space having the opportunity to work on materials for multilateral development banks credit enhancement providers governments and financial institutions. Finally the intern will gain knowledge of how finance can be used to fund conservation goals and will interact with TNCs conservation teams to help deliver joint conservation-finance materials.

The Intern will support the deal team with building financial models that assess the likelihood of debt repayment typically in the context of sovereign refinancings such as those mentioned above. The Intern will be expected to support the team with tasks related to the project such as building and auditing models in accordance with best industry practices and generate table charts and other outputs for use in Word documents and Power Point presentations maintain and optimize models through financial close and during post-close operations summarize the results of modeling and other quantitative analysis in presentations and memoranda and assist with presentations to senior management and potentially external audiences. As an intern on the team you will work on innovative debt conversion projectsalongside experts while growing your financial modelling professional skillsets and market knowledge while tackling real-world conservation financing challenges.

This is a four-month position that will start as soon as the Intern is able to start and requires 20 hours per week. This Intern may be located anywhere in the United States. Must have valid work authorization as no visa or immigration assistance will be is a possibility the internship may be extended or converted to a full-time position dependent on available funding and need.

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $25 per hourly rate. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidates actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors including for example the candidates location qualifications specific skills and experience.
