Job Description
Compensation Range: $70525 - $81345 yearly commensurate with experience.
Benefits:
We have three comprehensive healthcare plans to choose from based on your priorities and budget. Housing Works covers most of the plan; you pay a portion based on your salary. Staff begins accruing PTO immediately for a total of up to 30 days earned in the first year. We offer employees an educational benefit. Overview:
The Communications Coordinator will work closely with members of Housing Works Development team to implement a comprehensive communications strategy that supports fundraising goals. This position is ideal for someone with strong writing and design skills content creation skills several years of experience managing fundraising communications for a nonprofit or similar entity and a passion for serving communities in need.
Reporting to the Vice President of Development the Communications Coordinator will support all aspects of the departments external communications and work closely with a team of five including a Director of Development Director of Events Assoc. Director of Corporate Partnerships Assoc. Director of Development and Development Associate.
The Communications Coordinator will serve as one of the organizations primary storytellers responsible for crafting compelling and persuasive content across select channels and platforms and implementing a marketing strategy that includes planning select external communications from conception to execution. The Coordinator will be proactive in thinking of new and creative ways to engage with the Housing Works audience and reach new potential supporters and help reach/exceed fundraising goals.
Responsibilities:
Primary:
- Develop and maintain a 12-month communications editorial calendar that encompasses all public communications with Housing Works donors/prospects/event attendees etc. including e-blast and social media schedules.
- Develop communications strategies that leverage the advocacy and programmatic work (housing health care etc.) of Housing Works.
- Develop communications strategies for all events including but not limited to Housing Works annual spring gala.
- Create compelling content for all development campaigns including digital content printed marketing materials and on-site event materials; work with design consultants as needed
- Work with direct mail consultant to create compelling Direct Mail Membership including Major Donor Appeal Year-End Appeal Annual Report and Member communications.
- Collaborate with Housing Works Corporate Marketing Thrift Advocacy and other program departments to optimize content and strategy.
- Utilize program data and client testimonials to craft compelling stories that best demonstrate the impact of the organizations work.
- Work with PR marketing and content consultants to draft press releases.
- Maintain organization website with relevant updates.
- Develop monthly reports that detail social media and e-blast performance and other metrics that inform communications strategies
Secondary:
- Prepare necessary materials for internal and external meetings for the Development Department including board meetings.
- Provide overall support to events team as necessary.
- Know the Housing Works Mission Statement and goals and be able to inform and discuss with external stakeholders.
- Participate as needed in Department-wide fundraising activities including Best of Fall and Best of Spring.
Education
- BA/BS required
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience in non-profit development setting preferred and/or in a professional environment utilizing similar skills.
- Experience developing and supporting digital marketing campaigns.
- Understanding of communications landscape including emerging trends technologies web analytics and platforms.
- Exceptional writing skills.
- Strong graphic design skills including experience with Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.
- Exceptional project management and organizational skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong computer software skills including MS Office suite (Word Excel PowerPoint).
- Demonstrated ability to think critically and exercise good judgment as well as the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to create/adapt departmental workflows to improve outcomes and maximize resources.
- Comfort interacting with various stakeholders including donors staff volunteers board members and clients.
The following additional competencies are viewed as important to success in this position:
- Experience with commitment to working with low-income and marginalized communities as well as individuals with multiple chronic medical and/or behavioral health conditions.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to remain in stationary position 75-80% of the time.
- Frequently required to stand walk and/or traverse work locations.
- Constantly operates computer cell phone and other office equipment.
- Person in this position frequently communicates staff volunteers donors and vendors on all matters related to development and event operations. Must be able to exchange accurate/concise information in these situations.
