This position will function as a lead VERT III (Advanced Level Vehicle/ Equipment Repair Technician) within the North Wilkesboro Equipment Shop in Wilkes County.This position will perform a range of progressively responsible tasks involving advanced diagnostics and the use of computer diagnostic software to troubleshoot and repair a wide range of light medium and heavy duty on and off-road equipment. The selected candidate must have the ability to perform the following: read and follow electrical and hydraulic schematics possess the physical strength to move relatively heavy objectsfollow and perform written and oral instructions multi-task while maintaining focus prepare paperwork essential to employment and equipment repair.

In this position you will be expected to perform preventative maintenance repair rebuild and diagnose mechanical and electrical systems on gasoline and diesel powered automotive light medium and heavy-duty on and off-road equipment. Work assignments will vary in complexity depending on the type of equipment and system.

This candidate will act as backup to the Vehicle/Equipment Repair Supervisor and must be able to performand mentor others in skilled mechanic work including but not limited to the following systems brakes steering tires and tubes wheels rims and hubs transmission (auto and manual) charging systems cranking systems ignition systems CAN BUS systems and associated control modules lighting systems cooling systems exhaust systems fuel systems hydraulic systems air conditioning instruments & gages and air intake systems. This candidate will be required to utilize SAP to create work orders and enter time on work orders. This candidate will be responsible forcompleting fuel and lube inventory assisting other technicians in troubleshooting and completing more complex repairs assisting supervisor maintaining fuel site records and inspections per NCDOT and NCDENR requirements.

Pre-employment drug testing is required for this position. As a condition of employment a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substances and alcohol testing. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Drivers License with Tanker (N) endorsement. Either possession of a current Commercial Drivers License on the date of hire OR the North Carolina Commercial Drivers License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire. Safety toe footwear is needed.

Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three (3) years of experience in the area of assignment or a sufficient year-for-year combination of education and experience in the repair work to which assigned or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications

May require current certification by the EPA as a Type I II III or Universal technician as required by 40 CFR part 82 subpart F.
