Under the direct supervision of the Director of Special Services and in conjunction with the elementary school principals assist in providing quality programming for elementary school students with diverse special needs. This is a district-wide conjunction with and under the supervision of the Director of Special Services and the building principals: Create manage and supervise programs and staff development activities designed to maximize the skills of diverse learners in the least restrictive closely with ETFs teachers and specialists. Ensure that timelines are met and paperwork is with program heads and staff from other levels to ensure that the continuum of programming is in place across levels. Facilitate transition planning from preschool to elementary and elementary to middle school. Carry out recordkeeping as required for state and federal reports. Prepare departmental budgets as duties as assigned by the director of Special Services. Supervise and evaluate special education staff across the elementary schools as coordinated with building principals and Director of Special and facilitate monthly ETF and facilitate monthly elementary level special education department the need for and coordinate specialized instruction training at the elementary level to maintain the high caliber of instruction Andover provides. Serve as a resource to teams or individual staff members across the elementary level looking for guidance in specialized instruction recommendations the IEP process evaluations or support in team meetings. QualificationsLicensed as an Administrator of Special Education At least one of the following certifications:Teacher of Children with Moderate Special Needs Teacher of Children with Severe Special Needs School Adjustment Counselor School PsychologistTeacher of Children with Speech Language and Hearing disorders Extensive experience working with special needs students and current in depth knowledge of special education best practices and program design and development. Experience and expertise in curriculum adaptation staff development staff supervision and evaluation -depth knowledge of applicable state and federal laws and regulations relative to special education. Demonstrated ability to work collegially with regular and special education administrators and staff. Superior oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to resolve difficult issues with tact diplomacy and empathy.
