Job Description

Legal Counsel

Required Outputs: Functional
  • Provide general legal support to subsidiaries and business divisions within The Company Mining focusing on:
    • Commercial law
    • Litigation
    • Mergers and Acquisitions
    • Debt collection
    • Contract law
    • Corporate law
    • Dispute resolution
  • Supervise external service providers on a cost-benefit basis.
  • Maintain relationships with external legal advisors both locally and cross-border.
  • Conduct legal research and develop frameworks; analyse local and international trends that could impact the business.
  • Assess compliance with labour legislation both locally and across borders.
  • Drive business improvement initiatives related to ethics and corporate governance.
Qualifications and Expertise Required
  • LLB degree (mandatory).
  • Admitted attorney of the High Court.
  • 5 to 8 years of post-qualification experience.
  • Substantial experience in corporate commercial matters.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation including:
    • Corporate law
    • Competition law
    • Environmental law
    • Explosives law
    • Mining law
    • Tax law
    • Labour law
  • In-depth knowledge of legal processes and procedures.
  • Experience working in a contractual and procurement environment.
