Job Description
Minimum requirements:
- Experience as a MS SQL Server database administrator.
- Expertise with performance Tuning and TSQL Optimisation.
- Experience with busy databases handling large volumes of transactions per day.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a broad range of stakeholders up to Clevel
- A natural problem solver with excellent organisation and prioritisation skills
- Experience of decision making in a pressurised environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- University degree or equivalent from a knowledge & experience perspective
Nice to have:
- Experience in data engineering
- Experience in Microsoft Azure would be considered a strong asset
- Experience with any of the following considered an asset; Azure SQL Azure Data Factory MongoDB MySQL Terraform Databricks Azure Data Lake Storage
Responsibilities:
- Working within a central DBA team whilst interfacing with an assigned dev squad
- Traditional MS SQL Server administration tasks such as backups availability group maintenance version upgrades connectivity issues infrastructure management etc
- Preemptive TSQL optimisation identification and tuning of high consuming queries achieved through indepth query performance monitoring
- Partitioning and database size management
- TSQL code review for an assigned dev squad as well as supporting developers with efficient database design
- Developing and maintaining archiving strategies data extraction and data insertion pipelines using TSQL and/or Azure Data Factory
- Code and infrastructure automation using tools such as PowerShell Terraform and Azure DevOps
- Migrating to and creating managed database services such as Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instances
- Participating in an oncall support roster
