The Disaster Recovery Specialist will be responsible for implementing testing and maintaining disaster recovery and business continuity strategies to ensure the availability and integrity of our ICT services. The role supports mission-critical systems hosted in both on-premises and private cloud environments and contributes to the secure efficient and resilient operation of the organisations MPLS WAN virtual infrastructure hosted firewall and PBX solutions
Key responsibilities:- Implement and maintain comprehensive disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity plans aligned with our infrastructure and operational requirements.
- Establish DR protocols and backup procedures for 15 virtual machines hosted on a private cloud as well as for critical services such as SIP telephony data networking hosted PBX and firewall services.
- Collaborate with service providers to ensure integration of DR mechanisms into the newly planned WAN hosted virtual infrastructure internet connectivity and wireless network refresh initiatives.
- Evaluate risks conduct impact assessments and identify vulnerabilities related to the end-of-life Cisco wireless solution and other legacy systems.
- Test disaster recovery procedures regularly and coordinate simulated failover exercises across the WAN ensuring minimal disruption to the organisations services.
- Maintain detailed documentation for all DR and backup configurations ensuring they meet compliance and audit requirements.
- Liaise with provincial ICT leads to ensure localized DR plans are synchronized with the central recovery strategy.
- Monitor and report on DR readiness recovery point objectives (RPO) and recovery time objectives (RTO) compliance.
- Support incident response efforts in the event of system outages or cyber threats affecting the MPLS network or virtual environments.
Minimum Technical Skills and Qualifications:- A Bachelors degree in Information Technology or an equivalent qualification (NQF Level 7).
- Valid VMCA Certification.
Required Experience and Skills:- Minimum of 5 years of experience in disaster recovery planning business continuity or IT infrastructure support in a multi-site enterprise environment.
- Proven experience working with MPLS WAN networks virtual hosting environments and hybrid cloud infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of backup solutions recovery tools and data protection best practices.
- Experience with Cisco wireless and networking technologies is advantageous especially in transitioning end-of-life hardware.
- Familiarity with hosted PBX and firewall solutions particularly in a managed service context.
- Excellent problem-solving risk assessment and crisis management skills.
- Strong communication and documentation abilities with experience in coordinating multi-site recovery efforts
