The Superintendent is a 2.9.2 appointment in terms of the MHSA and is responsible for ensuring that the drilling process operates effectively.
Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Allocate work schedules to subordinates.
- Plan drilling activities through liaison with logistics.
- Liaise with the Operations manager on drilling activities.
- Liaise with Area Resource team for technical support.
- Monitor and advise on the drilling operation to optimize performance.
- Assists during breakdowns or emergencies to co-ordinate support from other disciplines.
- Control shift rosters sickness implications training and leave schedules to ensure team is adequately resourced.
- Encourage co-operation and teamwork between maintenance and operational personnel.
- Initiate and monitor improvement projects.
- Ensure that material usage is to standard.
- Ensure that health and safety standards are adhered to
- Ensure that operating standards and procedures are up to date and understood by the team.
- Direct specialist for technical support requirements.
- Audit the process regularly to ensure conformance to and understanding of standards.
- Develop a trusting and mutual respect relationship with internal and external service suppliers.
- Ensure that employees work in a safe environment.
- Communicate effectively with managers and subordinates.
- Hold disciplinary and grievance enquiries.
- Identify potential conflict situations and minimize the implications.
- Manage cultural diversity.
- Interview potential new recruits.
- Support the induction of new employees.
- Implement and maintain applicable Safety Standards Regulations Legislation Codes of Practice and Standards.
- Review safety injury hazard risk and incident reports and introduce a plan of action.
- Establish procedures for abnormal work requirements which fall outside of standard procedures.
- Ensure that operating standards and procedures are up to date and understood by the team.
- Audit the process regularly to ensure conformance to and understanding of standards.
- Develop a trusting and mutual respect relationship with internal and external service suppliers.
- Ensure that employees work in a safe environment.
- Communicate effectively with managers and subordinates.
- Hold disciplinary and grievance enquiries.
- Support and participate in the training and development requirements of employees.
- Advise employees on career opportunities and the requirements to achieve personal growth.
- Ensure that employees have clear work expectations and plan.
This role is at a band 6/10 level reporting to the Section Manager Drilling.
Qualifications :
- Recognised qualification in Mining (BSc BEng National Diploma) or a Mine Overseer Certificate.
- Opencast blasting certificate
Experience Knowledge and Skills
- At least five years of post graduate experience with a minimum of 2 years in Drill and Blast
- Microsoft office
