General Description:
The Junior Structural/Product Designer will support the design team in developing structural and aesthetic concepts for physical products and display units. This role includes contributing to the creation of technical drawings assisting in the development of prototypes and supporting fabrication documentation. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a sound understanding of design principles materials and structural functionality with solid proficiency in CAD software. They must also exhibit the ability to work in a fast-paced collaborative environment with a passion for design innovation and technical accuracy.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Technical Proficiency:
- Assist in the preparation of technical drawings and 3D models for structural design and product components.
- Support the senior design team in detailing fabrication drawings and design packs.
- Use CAD software to create die-lines layouts and design elements for production.
- Innovation and Creativity:
- Contribute to conceptual ideation and participate in brainstorms with the senior team.
- Assist in developing solutions that balance design intent with functionality and feasibility.
- Explore design trends materials and techniques that could enhance output quality.
- Accuracy and Thoroughness:
- Ensure precision in annotated drawings and measurements.
- Maintain and organize design files revision records and fabrication-ready outputs.
- Cross-check designs for material and manufacturing alignment.
- Prototyping and Finishing:
- Assist in the creation of mock-ups and white samples.
- Support preparation of prototype presentations and documentation.
- Help manage updates to samples based on feedback from internal reviews.
- Communication:
- Liaise with team members to understand design intent and requirements.
- Participate in project briefings structural reviews and design discussions.
- Present visual or verbal explanations of concepts and structural ideas when required.
- Industry Knowledge:
- Maintain awareness of current trends in product and structural design.
- Develop foundational knowledge of materials fabrication methods and assembly considerations.
- Apply basic design theory and principles to technical design challenges.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- National Diploma or Degree in Architectural Technology Product Design or Industrial Design.
- 1-2 years of experience working in a drawing office structural design studio architectural practice or similar design environment.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD SolidWorks Rhino).
- Basic experience with Adobe Creative Suite is an advantage.
- Familiarity with prototype building and finishing techniques is beneficial.
