Job Description

St. Philip Neri Church located in Linthicum Heights Maryland seeks candidates for a Custodian for the parish. The Custodian helps to oversee and perform routine maintenance of parish buildings and property. This position reports directly to the Facilities Manager and works collaboratively with other facilities staff. Must have availability to respond to on-call emergencies. This is a full-time benefit eligible position. The hours are 8am - 4pm.

Essential Functions:

  • Clean and maintain the cleanliness of the Church Parish Rectory and shared Parish School space
  • Clean non-carpeted floors; vacuum and mop regularly; strip clean buff and apply sealer and floor finish according to established schedules
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms and water cooler using established procedures and appropriate disinfectant cleaners
  • Dust and polish furniture and clean upholstery
  • Dust equipment including computer monitors and keyboards telephones and all surfaces
  • Vacuum carpeted areas
  • Clean gym floors as required
  • Clean interior walls dust ceilings and clean building fixtures
  • Wash accessible interior and exterior windows and window frames
  • Gather trash clean trash cans insert new trash bags dispose of gathered trash in designated receptacles
  • Place recycle bin out on regular recycle day
  • Replace light bulbs refill restroom dispensers for paper towels soap deodorizer and toilet paper
  • Assist with or perform set-up duties for meetings and events and break down chairs and tables afterwards clean area if needed
  • Perform cleaning and clearing duties such as removing debris leaves snow ice trash etc. from sidewalks parking lots and stairs as needed
  • Respond to cleaning requests quickly and in a professional and collaborative manner
  • Weekend events occasionally required with flextime available.
  • Other duties as requested.
  • Report any issues to the Business Manager

Required Education and Experience:

  • Relevant experience in professional custodial work is a plus.
  • Experience operating buffers polishers and rug shampooing equipment is a plus but not required.
  • Knowledge of light mechanical electrical plumbing painting a plus but not required
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff.

Required Knowledge Abilities and Skills:

  • Ability to ascend and descend from heights; ability to transfer heavy items including office furniture from one place to another
  • Knowledge of practices and methods used to maintain repair and clean tile and carpet floor coverings
  • Basic understanding of the proper use and disposal of potentially hazardous chemicals and materials used in the performance of job duties to clean the range of surfaces associated with commercial spaces
  • Must be able to work in difficult weather conditions including heat and cold snow and rain etc.
  • Must be flexible in scheduling and be available for emergency situations that may occur outside of normal work hours
  • Must be able to lift 40 to 50 lbs.
  • Reliable transportation

Range: $16.00/hourly
