Job Title:Interim Director of Bands

Department: Music

Reports to: Chair

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Salary Range:$28000 - $32000

POSITION SUMMARY
Washington Adventist University seeks to hire an outstanding candidate to serve as Interim Director of Bands (50% position). This is a 1 year position with a start date of August 2025 through June 2026. Review of candidates will begin immediately.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct the Washington Concert Winds and subsets of the WCW in accordance with NASM standards for collegiate and/or university band. (Rehearsals are scheduled for Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:00 6:30 pm)
  • Administer the band program including managing student professionals band faculty and staff repertoire design of rehearsals performing schedule equipment inventory WCW budget scholarship budget tours and travel facilities development and summer activities.
  • Prepare and perform one major WCW concert per semester. Additionally perform at extracurricular events at area churches and high schools and university events such as convocation and graduation as requested.
  • Actively recruit.
  • Promote and maintain an environment of culture respect aesthetic appreciation and spirituality.
  • Teach academic courses within candidates area of specialization (i.e. Conducting I and II).
(Note: Rank is assigned to the successful candidate based on education and experience.)

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduate degree in wind/brass/percussion from accredited institution
  • Documented success of teaching at the collegiate level
  • Effective interpersonal communication advocacy and collaboration skills
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience conducting wind ensemble
  • Composition/arranging skills
  • Effectiveness as a recruiter
  • Experience working with faith-based institutions
  • Extensive knowledge of wind ensemble repertoire that contributes to a culture of diversity equity and inclusion
