The Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Ottawa invites highly qualified candidates to apply for a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Applied Economics. We are seeking candidates from any field with a preference for those focusing on applied econometrics. The ideal candidate would work on applied questions/issues using strong quantitative frameworks. The candidate must have a world-class research program and an ambitious research agenda. The holder of the Chair will implement a creative and independent research program that is based on external research funding and will be actively involved with graduate student training and education. The Chair will be appointed to the Department of Economics and will be expected to teach and supervise graduate students in this unit.

Located on the unceded territory of the Anishinaabe-Algonquin people in the heart of the nations capital and in close proximity to multiple national agencies the University of Ottawa is one of Canadas top ten research-intensive universities. It is recognised as the first and largest bilingual university in North America and offers strong connections to organisational government and policy interest holders. The University is situated in close proximity to the Parliament of Canada multiple national agencies including Statistics Canada as well as various provincial and municipal agencies.

Tier1 Chairs tenable for seven years and renewable once are for outstanding researchers acknowledged by their peers as world leaders in their fields. For each Tier 1 Chair the institution receives $200000 annually for seven years. Nominees for Tier 1 Chair positions must be full professors or associate professors who are expected to be promoted to the full professor level within one or two years of the nomination. Alternatively if they come from outside the academic sector nominees must possess the necessary qualifications to be appointed at these levels. New CRC nominees are also eligible for infrastructure support from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) to help acquire state-of-the-art equipment essential to their work.

Rank and salary:

Terms: tenure-track academic appointment in the Faculty of Social Sciences. The salary range for a full professor starts at $131803 and for an associate professor starts at $109776 (scale of the collective agreement between APUO and the University of Ottawa as of May 1 2025). Salaries are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
