Emergency Medical Technician Job Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates correct stabilization and immobilization of spine and proper fitting of splints for extremities; Demonstrates ability to assess neurovascular status after splint application and reports deviations to Registered Nurse and physician.
- Assists with patient transport for testing admission/discharge interfacility and aeromedical (per policy of Operating Unit); Arranges interfacility transport from freestanding Emergency departments.
- Collects patient specimens following department/facility policies and procedures; Assists mid-level providers and physicians with collecting labeling and transporting irretrievable specimens.
- Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies to optimize delivery of patient care and treatment; Coordinates with materials management to ensure appropriate stock and minimize outdated stock.
- Obtains 12 lead ECG per physician order and provides ECG to physician for review immediately upon completion.
- Reviews Medical Director orders as related to disease state; Monitors and reports patients progress towards expected outcomes and deviations to Registered Nurse.
- Provides wound care according to department clinical practice standards and acts as a resource to physicians and nurses to provide patients with optimum care.
- Training:Must be available for six (6) weeks of paid training consisting of
- Virtual modules
- Classroom-style sessions: 8AM 4:30PM
- On-unit training with department hired into (times TBD)
Emergency Medical Technician Requirements:
- Experience:Healthcare experience
- Education:High School Diploma or GED
- Certification:BLS and EMT-B; must either be active on the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) or possess a current Virginia EMT License/Certification
