Role Summary:

Reporting to the Collections Manager Team Leader the Collections Assistant Manager/Team Leader preserves the credit union assets by controlling delinquent accounts collecting delinquent loan payments recovering collateral and disposing of repossessed collateral. Always maintain professional demeanor while working with members vendors and staff.

What You Will Be Doing:

  1. Supervise motivate and provide direction to direct reports as well as the entire team. This includes coaching mentoring and evaluating the performance and behavior of individual employees; monitoring and supervising the productivity efficiency and effectiveness of the credit unions collection function; and establishing and maintaining clear and productive lines of communication with all stakeholders.
  2. Supervise staff to maintain the credit unions charged-off and delinquent accounts at or below acceptable levels to be identified by credit union management or industry standards.
  3. Ensure all collection activity is legal and follows credit union policy. Keep management informed of operational issues affecting the credit unions collection practice(s). Provide monthly (or as requested) reports which reflect all collection and recovery activities.
  4. Supervise staff and assist with analyzing financial situation of delinquent borrowers.
  5. Assist with the liquidation process of repossessed collateral always working to ensure the highest possible return to the credit union. Recommend charge-offs to senior management.
  6. Assist the management team in reviewing collection work queues to monitor and measure performance; including acting as a back-up for Collectors during absences or as requested by management.
  7. Inform management of trends in loan underwriting contributing to delinquent/charged-off loans.
  8. Must understand and perform Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) functions as applicable to job responsibilities.
  9. Attend credit union training sessions conferences and seminars as approved by management. Maintain awareness of policies and regulations related to duties and responsibilities.
  10. Conduct one-on-one meetings with individual team members assigned to supervise.
  11. Perform personnel-related staffing scheduling training and performance evaluation of all assigned staff. Adhere to the progressive discipline process and respond to performance or behavior deficiencies promptly.
  12. Develop and maintain a high level of expertise around the credit unions collection software Temenos. This includes assisting in supporting outside departments and vendors during upgrades and conversions.
  13. Develop recommendations for cost efficiencies process improvements pricing and enhancements to products by monitoring trends in loan performance.
  14. Maintain a dependable record of attendance and timeliness.
  15. Maintain and protect all sensitive data utilizing the highest standard of confidentiality and professionalism. Consistently display respect for all areas of diversity and levels of knowledge.
  16. Display leadership values act in the best interest of the credit union lead by example control risk and supervise/operate in a safe and sound manner.

  1. Ability to organize prioritize and manage multiple complex tasks.
  2. Ability to effectively communicate ideas and information both orally and in writing.
  3. Ability to maintain thorough knowledge of collection and credit union programs products and services.
  4. Ability to solve problems and exercise sound judgment when performing duties and working with members.
  5. Ability to analyze information and recommend achievable process improvements to the Executive Team.
  6. Ability to direct train lead and motivate assigned staff to complete all tasks assigned accurately and within time prescribed.

What You Will Need:

  1. Four (4) year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school in the area of collections; additional related experience may be recognized as an equivalency to education requirements.
  2. Three (3) to five (5) years of related experience.
  3. Travel is required to complete training fulfill duties and/or perform responsibilities.
  4. A valid Drivers License is required.
  5. Must consistently display and maintain courtesy tact and diplomacy with current and potential members peers and staff.
  6. Proficient with Microsoft Office programs software and standard office equipment. Experience with Temenos or similar collection system desired. Experience with DNA desired.
  7. Thorough knowledge and understanding of credit union services and products preferred.
