Job Description

Alternative Education Teacher - Temporary Assignment

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

This is a full-timeon site licensed teachingposition. Theassignmentmay only be for a limited term potentially up to 12 weeks.

The Alternative Education Teacher is responsible for supporting students enrolled in Destinations Academy serving students in grades 9-12. Thispositionserves as a teacher academic advisor and case manager working directly with students and families tomonitorprogress improve engagement andimplementstudent-specific success plans. The Alternative Education Teacher ensures students have access to the necessary support to meet graduation requirements through regular communication timely interventions and personalized outreach.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Properly endorsed Oregon Teaching License with endorsementsappropriatefor grades 9-12.
  • Experience working in an online alternative or non-traditional educational settings preferred.
  • Proficient in educational technology including online platforms Google Suite and student information systems (Synergy preferred).
  • Knowledge of credit recovery graduation requirements and secondary-level instruction.
  • Ability to build rapport andmaintainengagement with students and families.
  • Familiarity withEdgenuityor similar online learning platforms.
  • Mustpossessexcellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency implementing and adapting educational interventions
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Planning & Instruction

  1. Writes andutilizesshort-term and long-term plans for instruction.
  2. Plans activities of high quality in keeping with district-adopted goals standards and curriculum.
  3. Plans and develops goals andobjectivesto meet identified student outcomes.
  4. Monitors student understanding and adjusts plans based on student learning needs and styles.
  5. Demonstrates skillin the selection ofvarious teaching techniques and instructional materials conducive to student learning.
  6. Differentiates instruction to accommodate diverse student abilities learning profiles and interests ensuring all students access grade-level content.
  7. Implements evidence-based instructional strategies within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to proactively address academic and behavioral needs.
  8. Integrates literacy-based instruction across content areas to support reading writing listening and speaking skills development for all students.
  9. Utilizes a variety of instructional techniques strategies and materials necessary to the lesson and/or activity including district and state adopted curriculum.
  10. Uses student performancedata toguide instructional decisionsmonitorprogress andinforminterventions that supportindividualand group learning needs.
  11. Promotes an inclusive learning environment by ensuringequitableaccess removing barriers and celebratingthe diversity ofall learners including students with disabilities English language learners and those from historically underserved groups.

  1. Establishes classroomproceduresthat promote student learning and self-discipline and adds tothe realization ofthe students personal potential as a worthy citizen.
  2. Holds high expectations of student learning and aligns curriculum to state standards.
  3. Promotes respect and empathy among students of different socioeconomic cognitive and cultural backgrounds.
  4. Establishes studentobjectivesthat promote student growth.
  5. Makes use of alternative assessments (whenappropriate) as well as traditional assessments.
  6. Uses a grading system that is consistent fair and supportable.
  7. Assesses records and provides feedback to students on their progress and assignmentsin a timely manner.

Professionalism & Communication

  1. Continues professional growth through the upgrading of skills and knowledge.
  2. Communicates effectively positively andin a timely mannerwith schoolpersonnel the public and parents.
  3. Collaborates effectively with students parents the public teachers administration and other staff.
  4. Contributes to and maintains a culture of collaboration that embraces continuous learning takes ownership of student results and celebratesindividualand collective successes.
  5. Acts in a discreet and professionalmannerwhen discussing students and/or school problems.
  6. Writes and follows personal performance goalsin accordance withTeacher Standards and Practices Commissions Professional Development Plan (TSPCDivision 90).
  7. Maintainsappropriateteacher-student relationships as outlined in the Ethical Educator (TSPCDivision 20).
  8. Follows their duties and responsibilities as set forth by the districts Job Description.
  9. Maintains regular attendancein order topreservecontinuity.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned by Principal and/or Supervisor.

ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS:

In this work environment the teachingpositionoccasionally performs work beyond a standard 40-hour work week when workload requires. The work environments combine a standard classroom setting including standard classroom equipment (assistive technology copier phoneChromebookor computer audio/visual equipment etc.) in a standard school setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate and occasionally high depending upon student population and activities. The employeemay beexposed to blood borne pathogens and/or physically and emotionallydysregulatedstudents.
