Position Overview
The Manager Technical Specialists supports the daily operations of the clinical laboratory by coordinating workflows ensuring regulatory compliance and developing front-line staff. This role focuses on operational execution team supervision and process improvement to help meet laboratory performance goals.
Essential Duties
include but are not limited to the following:
Operational Oversight
- Coordinate daily and weekly workflows to support lab throughput and turnaround time goals.
- Monitor lab operations to ensure the Technical Specialists team meets support needs.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations (e.g. CLIA CAP OSHA NY DOH CLEP).
- Assist with resource planning and contribute to budget tracking in collaboration with leadership.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement by identifying and sharing best practices.
Team Management & Development
- Supervise and support staff through performance feedback coaching and engagement.
- Identify training needs and ensure team members are properly trained and competent.
- Assist with onboarding and workforce planning in partnership with department leadership.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment.
Process & Quality Improvement
- Help identify and resolve workflow or system issues in collaboration with other teams.
- Support audits and quality reviews to improve lab efficiency and compliance.
- Maintain and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) and job aids with guidance from quality teams.
- Participate in verifying test and process performance with senior lab leadership.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work with stakeholders to support lab needs including staffing equipment and training.
- Assist in implementing new tests tools and automation systems.
- Support the onboarding of clinical studies and new workflows into lab operations.
Education & Professional Growth
- Participate in internal and external training and development opportunities.
- Support continuing education initiatives for lab staff in collaboration with senior leaders.

Physical & Travel Requirements
- Able to lift up to 40 pounds and perform physical tasks such as standing bending and reaching.
- Capable of working on a computer or mobile device for extended periods.
- Willing to travel between Madison locations and up to 10% of the time including overnight/weekend travel.
- Complies with all personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in chemical physical biological or clinical laboratory/medical technology science or related field.
- 5 years of experience working in a clinical laboratory setting to include experience working with Quality Management Programs including strong knowledge of all laws and regulations that are required by CLIA CAP OSHA and other related legislative and/or state health departments and organizations.
- 4 years of experience leading and managing teams.
- Experience and knowledge in the areas of laboratory technology and LIS management.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office programs such as Word Excel PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.
Preferred qualifications:
- 3 years of project management experience
- Possession of ASCP certification and ability to maintain throughout employment in position.
- 3 years of experience with Laboratory Informations System (LIS) requirements development and system verification.
- Lean 6 Sigma Certification.

Salary Range:
$82000.00 - $146000.00
The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - WI - Madison on a full-time addition this position is bonus eligible.
