Director of Iceplex | Full-Time | Acrisure Arena

The Director of Iceplex is responsible for overseeing the Iceplex department and ice usage at the Berger Foundation Iceplex including but not limited to managing rink schedules skate sharpening and repair concession sales league management and on-ice programing/instructions. Provides leadership and initiative in developing maximizing and maintaining ice sales and programming within the facility. This is balanced with strong customer service ability team leadership and business acumen. Direct reports include Business Operations Manager Hockey Manager and Figure Skating Manager.

This position will pay an annual salary of $100000-$130000 and is bonus eligible

The Berger Foundation Iceplex serves as a welcoming year-round refuge for localsand visitors to skate train and have FUN. The 36000 square foot Iceplex located adjacent to Acrisure Arena features a 250-spectator seat NHL ice rink four locker rooms two party room areas and a mezzanine for skaters and viewers to enjoy concessions while connecting with friends. A myriad of special events is open to the public includinghockeyandskatingprograms tournaments exhibition ice shows plus themed and charitable activities to include DJ Skate nights Frozen 5k and more.

The Iceplex is the official training center of the Coachella Valley addition todaily publicice skating sessions the Iceplex is home to theCV SK8 Academy Adult and JuniorHockey LeaguesBirthday Parties and more. Opportunities for private ice rental for tournaments broomball corporate nonprofit and other special events are also available.

• Provides sound financial management of the Iceplex department including overall rental and ice use schedules hockey schools and tournaments and other marketing strategies.
• Manage subordinate supervisors. Responsibilities include interviewing hiring and training employees; planning assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
• Coordinates the use of the community iceplex. Works closely with hockey and skating associations scheduling ice usage and making necessary arrangements for the personnel equipment and materials to be on hand.
• Responsible for promoting and representing facility in a positive manner at all times.
• Investigate analyze and resolve operational problems and complaints. Conduct periodic staff meetings to discuss procedures problems and policy changes.
• Develop operating procedures that conform to corporate standards customized to the specific needs of the facility and consistent with the goals and objectives of the client and facility.
• Maintains records of activities and programs completing reports and making recommendations for improvement to programming.
• Coordinates repairs and preventative maintenance on rink equipment with the assistance of Director of Operations and Director of Facilities.
• Responsible for development of the departments annual operating budget and responsible for its implementation delivery and achievement and to forecast throughout the year.
• Books ice using DaySmart and creates ice rink schedule.
• Schedules all ice usage with all user groups.
• Manages scheduling and payroll for all direct reports.
• Responds to and troubleshoots issues outside of regular working hours.
• Develops and establishes the ice user pool to best utilize ice.
• Creates annual department marketing plan with Marketing Dept.
• Oversees manages and markets all hockey and skating programs at the facility.
• Oversees manages and markets all Birthday Party and group ice rentals.
• Develops and oversees ice programming including Learn-To programs etc.
• Works together with user groups during tournaments and special events.
• Schedules ongoing rental skate sharpening and repairs.
• Continuous development of the Iceplex department.
• All other duties as assigned.

• Bachelors degree or better from an accredited college or university with major coursework in sports management business administration recreation & leisure or other related field. Can be substituted for relevant experience.
• 7 years of increasingly responsible experience overseeing an ice rink facility or other multi-purpose/multi-sport facility.
• Must possess an advanced knowledge of skating and be able to skate at an advanced level.
• Advanced knowledge of hockey and ice programming.
• Significant knowledge of youth hockey programming and development
• Significant knowledge of learn-to programming and development
• Must be familiar with USA Hockey and US Figure Skating rules procedures and policies.
• Knowledge of website maintenance and social media platforms including Facebook LinkedIn Twitter and Instagram.
• Familiarity with booking procedures and rental agreements in an ice rink facility preferred.
• Familiarity with booking software/POS systems in an ice rink facility preferred
• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and word processing spreadsheets database presentation graphic design PowerPoint and Internet software
• Excellent interpersonal oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Proven leadership skills and staff supervision experience.
• Prior experience in team and league management.
