The Medical Assistant (MA) provides support to physicians and other healthcare professionals by performing clinical and administrative tasks to ensure efficient patient care delivery. The MA works closely with patients handling both front- and back-office functions in a fast-paced medical setting. The Medical Assistant functions under the direction of the Nurse Supervisor and/or Practice/Office Manager. Key responsibilities of the role include gathering and recording vital signs and other pertinent patient information for the visit preparing patients for exams assisting during treatments coordinating tests and follow-up care and recording treatment in the medical record. The MA recognizes patients needs and symptoms in advance and responds appropriately always keeping patient safety and the patient experience at the center of care delivery. The MA demonstrates competency and skills to serve patients of all ages. Performs other duties as necessary related to front office tasks and registration laboratory and x-ray testing.Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Exemplary Practice and OutcomesProvides patient care in accordance with recognized clinical practice guidelines and standards set forth by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or similar to federal state and local laws and regulations as well as organizational and industry standards for clinical all health care system/organizational and WMG policies and procedures and clinical competencies put forth by this job and Non-Clinical Duties and ExpectationsRotates among various clinical and non-clinical service areas such as lab x-ray and front relationship-based patient-centered care that is consistent with population-specific characteristics (e.g. age gender disease etc.) in a manner that adapts service delivery to reflect an understanding of cultural with the patient and significant others and/or family (as appropriate); keeping the patient at ease in the office through a collaborative and communicative approach to all care patient upon entry to the patient for the visit with the physicians/ rooms and equipment and aids physicians/APPs with treatment of out orders generated from the office visit. Responds to patient requests generated outside of the office the safety needs of the patient at all and CollaborationCollaborates with providers nurses and clinical staff to uphold continuity and consistency of in daily huddles staff meetings and medical group or system workgroups/committees to represent the voice of the medical teamwork and collaboration by practicing in an inclusive manner that promotes the recruitment and retention of all healthcare team in quality improvement initiatives to ensure alignment with best practices in medical be asked to serve as a preceptor to assist in the onboarding and/or training of new team members trainees or with cross-training of other team Development and InitiativeCompletes all initial and ongoing professional competency assessments required mandatory education and population-specific leadership by identifying areas for improvement in care delivery and suggesting innovative in workgroups committees and shared decision-making reflects on personal performance and areas of strength or weakness. Minimizes waste of medical supplies and supervisors or ordering staff when supplies are running be asked to provide staffing coverage for absences vacations and leave.X-Ray Duties and ExpectationsPerforms x-ray procedures to assist providers in the treatment of and positions patients for x-ray procedures ensuring all proper techniques including radiation optimum views as ordered by the images and reviews for proper identification and quality and maintains logs reports and Duties and ExpectationsProperly starts lab equipment daily maintains daily logs and required for specimen collection including phlebotomy and Point of Care testing according to orders and appropriate collection and testing laboratory tests according to orders and and stocks supplies daily quality control and cleaning procedures according to other duties as assignedComplies with all Wellstar Health System policies standards of work and code of conduct.Required Minimum Education:
- High School Diploma General or GED General or Other / Certificate Medical Assisting
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.- CMA - Cert Medical Assistant
- BLS - Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor
Additional License(s) and Certification(s):
Current certification from one of the following medical assisting credentialing bodies: AAMA (CMA) AMT (RMA) NHA (CCMA) NCCT (NCMA) NAHP (NRCMA) Upon Hire RequiredRequired Minimum Experience:
Experience in the physician practice setting Preferred andExperience in the urgent care setting Preferred andExperience performing phlebotomy Preferred andExperience performing x-rays Preferred orWill provide training within the first 90 daysRequired Minimum Skills:
