Job Description
FLSA Status: Exempt
The High School Counseling Department Director provides leadership coordination and supervision of the school counseling program to ensure that it supports the academic career and personal/social development of all students. This position requires collaboration with counselors administrators faculty parents and community partners to deliver a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) standards.
Leadership & Program Management
- Develop implement and continuously improve a comprehensive school counseling program.
- Supervise evaluate and provide professional development opportunities to the counseling department staff.
- Establish goals for the counseling department in alignment with school and district strategic plans and based on identified school needs.
- Lead departmental meetings and coordinate various efforts across the school.
- Keep informed on current counseling/educational innovations and practices and assist staff in related implementation activities.
Student Support Services
- Oversee the delivery of counseling services to meet the academic career college readiness and personal/social needs of students.
- Ensure equitable access to counseling services for all students.
- Monitor student progress and implement intervention strategies in collaboration with staff and families.
- Support crisis intervention and conflict resolution efforts.
- Stay informed and connected to the life of the school.
Collaboration & Communication
- Serve as the liaison between the counseling department and school administration teachers families other schools and community resources.
- Advocate for student needs and represent the counseling department in school-wide planning.
- Work collaboratively with the school administrative team on the student scheduling process.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to foster partnerships that support student success.
Compliance & Data Management
- Ensure compliance with local state and federal regulations regarding school counseling.
- Manage student records confidentiality and data reporting in accordance with FERPA and district policies.
- Analyze student data to identify trends and guide program planning and resource allocation.
College & Career Readiness
- Oversee college and career advising services including transcript reviews college applications scholarships and financial aid guidance.
- Plan and execute events such as college fairs career fairs and informational workshops.
- Collaborate with post-secondary institutions and employers to enhance student opportunities.

- EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Masters degree in School Counseling from an accredited college or university.
- Valid School Counselor Certification.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a school counselor with leadership experience preferred.
