Senior Software Engineer (Java / .Net)

This is a hybrid working pattern role and ideally you will be based within a commutable distance to one of the following CGI offices Newcastle Manchester Leeds or Birmingham but we will consider candidates from other UK locations.

All applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) to Security Check (SC) level as a minimum.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

When you join our team as a Senior Software Engineer you can expect to work on a number of key programmes of work that will make a positive impact on ordinary citizens lives in the UK.

Day to day you will:

Work within a team on the design components of systems
Code document changes follow established processes and conduct unit testing
Ensure adherence to secure coding standards and best practices
Produce designs including for instance program specifications or prototypes/MVPs and backup recovery and restart procedure data flows etc.
Provide estimates and review the work of developers
Undertake the complete technical design of smaller applications or components of larger applications using templates and tools
Specify user/system interfaces and translate designs into technical solutions taking into account of target environment performance requirements and existing systems
Produce designs and document all work using required standards methods and tools including prototyping/MVP where appropriate
Contribute to requirements (functional and non-functional)
Contribute to the development of coding- and security standards and processes
Support the team in troubleshooting technical issues

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

Were looking for the following skills and experience:

Extensive experience in Software Development/Design and have a good understanding of current trends in software development architecture and systems integration (e.g. Cloud Automation APIs DevOps Mobile).
Solid software engineering experience in Java plus knowledge of AWS Azure Infrastructure as Code and modern Test Automation approaches.
A can-do attitude and to be adaptable helping to develop solutions and solve issues not only in your own area but to also help other teams (DevOps Testing etc.).
Experience of leading teams coaching and mentoring.
