POSITION SUMMARY:

The legislative officer acts as a spokesperson on legislative issues for Arizonas judicial branch and assists the Director of Government Affairs in managing the courts legislative efforts and legislative internship program. Work is mainly independent with direct reporting to the Director of Government Affairs indirect reporting to the Arizona Judicial Council and a close working relationship with the Executive Director Deputy Executive Director and Division Directors.

This position requires an extensive knowledge and understanding of Arizonas legislative process and a working knowledge of court administration and public policy to analyze the impact of proposed legislation on the judicial branch. The ideal candidate will also have strong public speaking and communication skills solid writing skills and a fluent understanding of Arizonas court system.

The successful applicant will play an integral role in developing the judicial branchs legislative package track and monitor proposed legislation and meet regularly with judicial officers and staff from the judicial branch to discuss and report on proposed and pending addition this position represents the judicial branch at meetings with legislators legislative staff lobbyists and staff from other governmental and private organizations drafts legislation and amendments obtains legislative sponsorship and support and acts as the judicial branchs lobbyist in accordance with direction from the Arizona Judicial Council. The position will also assist in training and educating court staff and judges regarding the legislative process and substantive legislative developments.

This position will also oversee the judicial branchs legislative internship program which involves working in cooperation with Arizonas universities the Legislature the Governors Office and other agencies to recruit select train mentor and monitor undergraduate interns.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program qualified employer.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires a Bachelors degree in Public Administration or a related field plus five years legislative experience and extensive knowledge and understanding of Arizonas legislative process. This position also requires knowledge of the Arizona Constitution Arizona Revised Statutes Administrative Rules Supreme Court policies procedures and administrative orders and their interrelationship with the functions and structure of other government agencies and private entities advanced research skills and a comprehensive understanding of various resources that can be utilized to prepare and present arguments on behalf of the judicial branch excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills the ability to work in a team environment as well as the ability to organize and prioritize workload and manage multiple issues simultaneously within tight time frames.

Travel level: up to 10%

SELECTION PROCESS:
