Position Overview:
Westerly High School is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) to assist our aviation instructor in delivering a high school-level aviation curriculum. This unique educational opportunity is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of aviation flight theory and aeronautical decision-making and to help prepare them for advanced aviation studies or careers in the aviation industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in delivering FAA-aligned aviation instruction as part of a high school-level aviation program
- Support classroom and simulator-based instruction
- Provide mentoring and support for students interested in aviation careers
- Collaborate with the lead instructor to enhance the curriculum and create engaging age-appropriate lessons
- Ensure a safe inclusive and supportive learning environment
Required Qualifications:
- Valid Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) certificate
- Strong knowledge of FAA regulations flight instruction principles and general aviation topics
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills especially with high school-aged students
- Ability to work collaboratively in an educational setting
- Must pass a background check as required by the school district
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with youth or in an educational setting
- Familiarity with flight simulators and aviation education technology
- CFII or additional FAA ratings a plus
- Authorized to work in the USA
- Current national background check without disqualifying results at time of hire.
