Job Description

Student Worker Performing Arts - Music

Number of Openings: 8


Purpose/Objective of the Role:

Music student workers actively support multiple tasks and events throughout the Performing Arts Department. Primarily music student workers are expected to have experience in music performance reading music notation and Google Suite software to appropriately handle diverse responsibilities including ensemble library management instrument inventory management program and poster production equipment and facility maintenance ensemble set up and clean up large event registration as well as stage manager and/or usher duties for select department events. Music Student Workers possess a strong work ethic good communication skills reliability and a helpful attitude to serve the positive impact they provide for day-to-day operations throughout the Performing Arts Department.


Tasks & Responsibilities:

  1. Instrument Inventory Management (collaborate with Dr. Edwards to organize instrument rental records maintenance records and coordinate check-out/check-in procedures with renting students)
  2. Equipment set up & clean-up for rehearsals and performances (collaborate with ensemble conductors to set up and clean up for rehearsals)
  3. Ensemble Library Management (Band Choir Orch) including writing and transposing music
  4. Festival support (coordinate with festival directors to support many tasks including registration equipment management and student leadership)
  5. Stage Manager (e.g. coordinate with performing artists and student recitalists to organize stage logistics and equipment for select department events)
  6. Performance event usher (distribute programs and assist guests to audience seating)
  7. Program and Poster production (collaborate with faculty stage directors and ensemble conductors to carefully enter accurate repertoire information in specified formats)
  8. Social Media support (collaborate with Lisa Hill to organize OWU Daily and Performing Arts social media posts for department events)
  9. Light custodial support tasks in Sanborn Chappelear Gray Chapel and Januzzi as needed.
  10. Host campus guests to greet guide and answer visitingfamily questions about our Music Program at special events (e.g. Festivals Audition Days)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in band choir or orchestra music performance
  • Ability to read and write music notation
  • Experience and willingness to utilize Google Suite features (Docs Spreadsheets Forms Slides)

Other Qualifications:

  • Reliability and accuracy with written documents
  • Proactive communication skills
  • Exhibit punctuality flexibility and enthusiasm working with fellow students faculty and campus guests
  • Willingness to work both independently and as part of a team during flexible hours that vary week to week

Academic Qualifications:

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • A reference from at least one OWU professor
  • Maintain enrollment in at least one 0.25 credit MUSP ensemble course
