SUMMARY:

To provide direct instruction to students in Kindergarten in order to deliver Hudson Public Schools high expectations for achievement equal access to high levels of instruction the achievement of academic proficiency for all students and the closing of the achievement gap among subgroups within the schools.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Introduce children to mathematics language science and social studies: use games music artwork films books computers and other tools to teach basic skills.
  • Teach letter recognition phonics numbers and awareness of nature and science.
  • Researching and creating instruction that supports the development of the cognitive emotional social and physical growth of the child
  • Maintaining communication that supports an understanding of the schools program develops positive relationships with the school community and protects the privacy and confidentiality of each student and family in the school community.
  • Participating in Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences each trimester and communicating regularly with families about academic social and developmental issues
  • Building and maintaining strong school culture centered on achievement: Utilize curricula that reflect the diverse educational cultural and linguistic backgrounds of the students served.
  • Implementing common academic and behavioral procedures to ensure a structured respectful and achievement-oriented school: create a learning environment that is safe and nurturing.

Qualifications:

  • The candidate must hold Massachusetts certification for Kindergarten
  • Bachelors degree required; masters preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
  • Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (CORI) and fingerprints

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to move about and may be required to traverse occasionally throughout the school building.
  • The employee must also often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and sit stoop kneel crouch or crawl.
  • The employee is expected to lift at least 20 lbs. (i.e. books school supplies etc.).
  • The employee must frequently use hands to finger handle or feel; and use hand strength to grasp tools.
  • Occasionally s/he operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e. a calculator copy machine and computer printer).
  • In the classroom the employee must be able to see and hear on a continuous basis in order to ensure the safety of students as well as speak frequently to provide instruction.
  • The employee will be working in a normal school environment with an acceptable level of noise.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year to be established by the Superintendent of Schools in conjunction with the HEA/HSC Collective Bargaining Agreement.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the appropriate administrator in accordance with HEA/HSC Collective Bargaining Agreement and DESE regulations 603CMR35.00.

While performing duties of this job the employee may often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee will have also have ample periods of standing and may be required to traverse throughout the building. The employee must frequently use hands and frequently operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e. calculator copy machine and computer printer). Physical abilities may also include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling stooping/crouching reaching/handling talking/hearing conversations and near/far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field. Ability must be able to lift and/or push and pull 15 to 20lbs for short periods and walk up and down stairs several times a day. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students staff members and the public in person and on the telephone.
