Role and Responsibilities

The primary function of the Senior Manager Retail Development is to oversee all physical retail solutions coordinate between Design and Construction and facilitate cross-functional alignment as projects move from one phase to the other within Mobile (MX) Retail. The position will be pivotal in the Samsung Mobile Retail Design and DTC teams and the Global Design Center in Suwon to align implement and monitor retail brand executions. Working with internal stakeholders and external vendors the Development Manager will oversee the full design-to-build program process to ensure stores are completed on time within budgets and to the expected brand standards. The work is detail-oriented and time-sensitive requiring strong information management skills project management experience a sense of urgency and a passion for flawless execution.

Samsung is looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager to join the Retail Customer Experience Team and lead the overarching retail environment development and build standard responsibilities and execution on build projects from concept to completion. Ensuring all SEA retail environments align with global brand direction are completed within localization compliance and drive continuity across all facets of the SEA retail landscape; this position will help drive the pipeline of new DTC stores nationwide and facilitate oversight and coordination of project workflow within the team to report and assist the Director in successful completion of all Retail initiatives.

The position will report to the Director of Retail Design Development and Build having a high impact on the entire store development cycle. Coordination between internal cross-functional teams and our counterparts in Suwon will be critical to the role as well as representing Samsung to our external vendors and partners. Our Samsung Experience Stores (SES) are our direct-to-consumer (DTC) outlets and are the pinnacle of our Samsung Electronics America (SEA) Brand.

The Senior Manager Retail Development will ensure cross-functional teams are apprised and aligned on the vision for showcasing Samsung products in retail while striving to achieve optimal presence across all channels. They are responsible for supporting the successful execution and completion of MX Retail built environment projects ensuring they are on time within budget and meet all local and global standards. The ideal candidate is highly organized detail-oriented and possesses excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Position Overview:

  • Oversees GC management (bidding award and PM) construction budget and timeline mall design alignment mall meetings and key milestones (site evaluation and pre-construction meetings) permit facilitation and expedition project updates and status reports and alignment on design decisions that impact construction.
  • Partners with the Retail Fabrication Sr Manager on Fixture Design & Development: Design development production logistics and installation of SES fixture packages (Domestic and/or overseas oversight based on project requirement).
  • Assists in the selection of digital screens to be used in each application (Architect GC SEA and Suwon alignment to selections) digital screen procurement and communication of digital specification to the digital content team.
  • Coordinated alignment with the Retail Design Sr Manager and Project Designer on Architect management (bidding and award) GDS design governance and integration into new SES locations design proposals and presentations design alignment of executive leadership and architect budget and timeline.
  • Partners with Retail Design Sr Manager and Project Designer on the development of SEA Design & Construction Standards (aligned with GDS guidelines) to prescribe situational design applications in consideration of site variances.
  • Tracks project progress and reports status updates for all Retail Development initiatives.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Build the knowledge of Samsungs details with all consultants (e.g. AORs engineers etc.) as well as the real estate construction facilities and procurement teams. Also keep a watchful eye for optimization and value engineering opportunities.
  • Represent Samsung when engaging and managing indirect partners (Mall landlords architects of record general contractors and Partnering retailers).
  • Assess new locations to ensure compatibility with the current store prototype working with AORs design acuity and flagging any potential issues prior to project site groundbreaking.
  • Engage stakeholders around design changes. While developing expertise in store operational needs. This includes work-around store refreshes and renovations based on operational needs by evolving the most cost-effective and least disruptive solutions possible.
  • Communicate effectively across all internal stakeholders including real estate construction procurement HQ and operations as well as external consultants and vendors to ensure constant updates and visibility with project schedules and status.
  • Assess design-to-build opportunities and align all stakeholders on identified solutionsand budget implications
  • Provide executive leadership readouts of work progress by site complete status reports and deliver construction presentations as required
  • Manage project closeout activities including final inspections punch lists and documentation. Ensure all project deliverables are met and accepted by the client. Prepare and submit final project reports.

Skills and Qualifications

Background & Competencies Required:

  • Bachelors degree in Business or 10 years of Retail design/development project management experience.
  • Proficient in project management software and standard business/office programs.
  • Experience managing retail new construction & remodeling projects on time and within budget.
  • Solid experience with design development and construction documents with an obsession with details.
  • Strong understanding of design development and construction processes building codes and safety regulations.
  • Construction administration experience managing multiple projects at once.
  • Excellent presentation written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Customer service aptitude and willingness to work as part of a team.
  • Able to multitask to meet various deadlines and handle shifting project priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. A team player with leadership abilities.
