Rolls-Royce Submarines Limited (RRSL) is responsible for delivering the Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR) Nuclear Steam Raising Plant (NSRP) and associated systems for the Royal Navys fleet of submarines. We work closely with the Ministry of Defence (MoD) the Submarines Delivery Agency and industry partners.
A requirement for a new workstream has been identified to focus on how knowledge about RRSLs products and component are managed and retrieved. We are looking for an individual with a passion for improving how RRSL manages its product knowledge and information and experience in project discovery and/or scoping work to undertake a discovery phase and scoping exercise to discover the pockets of best practice in the business and provide options for what the Information and Knowledge Management (IKM) team can do to enable the cohesive management and development of product knowledge.
This is a secondment opportunity until June 2026. This role sits within Engineering Operations and is based at our Derby offices currently Jubilee House.
Key accountabilities:
- To undertake a discovery phase and scoping work starting from an identified problem ending with a view of what work is currently being done across the business and options on how the IKM team could support this.
- Working with a wide range of stakeholders across the business to establish what currently happens and capture requirements for product knowledge management. This involves requirements gathering and managing stakeholder management project management effective communication and attention to detail.
- The individual will need the ability to self-drive the start of a potentially multi-year long workstream reporting progress to the IKM Group Lead collaborating with the IKM Section Leads and IKM team.
- Potentially engage with our Industry Partners and wider to understand best practices on how to exploit our product knowledge.
- Represent RRSL IKM when engaging across the business.
- Potentially support other IKM workstreams including engaging with stakeholders within Rolls-Royce Submarines capturing individual and team knowledge and or learning from experience as well as producing integrated working agreements.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience in Data Management Knowledge Management or Information Management activities is preferred but not essential.
- Experience of project management or engineering practices where a relevant qualification or working towards would be an advantage.
- Strong communication and literacy skills with attention to detail.
- Strong organisational and good presentation skills.
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
- Ability to involve resources and facilitate event workshops and meetings.
- Networking skills to engage with contacts required to get things done.
- Excellent time management self-motivation and decision-making abilities.

To work for the Rolls-Royce Submarines business an individual has to hold a Security Check clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you do not currently already have this in place. Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets we can only progress applications from individualswho are a UK national or in MoD approved cases a dual national.
