Job Description

The mission of Jazz at Lincoln Center Inc. (JALC) is to entertain enrich and expand a global community for jazz through performance education and advocacy. From college students to young stars from working professionals to celebrated masters we present quality jazz for an ever-increasing audience in an unprecedented range of activities and a variety of venues. We are dedicated to lifting audiences and bringing people together with substance and with integrity. JALC has created a dynamic platform where our key constituents jazz artists (beginner to grizzled veteran) fans (casual listeners to advanced scholars) educators (local band leaders to leading artist-educators) and advocates (local community advocates to important national promoters) can meet engage learn and work towards common objectives.

Dizzys Club is a world-class jazz venue and integral part of Jazz at Lincoln Centers home at Frederick P. Rose Hall (FPRH). We are seeking a Floor Manager to support front-of-house operations during live performances helping create a warm organized and welcoming environment for audiences artists and staff. This is a critical public-facing position that ensures the club operates smoothly each night and reflects Jazz at Lincoln Centers high standard of hospitality and care.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead front-of-house presence during Dizzys performances representing the club with professionalism and warmth.
  • Oversee nightly club operations including coordination with food and beverage staff (Great Performances) and FPRH Operations.
  • Act as the primary on-site contact for artists from arrival to departure ensuring hospitality and production needs are met.
  • Manage audience and guest experience including seating late arrivals and addressing concerns as they arise.
  • Support high-profile patrons including Board Members donors and VIPs with discretion and care.
  • Ensure that performances start and end on time; provide artist introductions and make stage announcements as needed.
  • Maintain awareness of venue flow and audience comfort throughout the evening.
  • Document key issues resolutions and areas for follow-up in nightly reports.

Qualifications

  • 35 years of experience in hospitality live events or venue management.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; a diplomatic and solutions-oriented demeanor.
  • Experience handling high-touch guest needs with professionalism.
  • Ability to manage shifting priorities with a calm and positive attitude.
  • Comfortable with microphone use for brief public announcements.
  • Commitment to creating a welcoming environment for artists and patrons.
  • Passion for live music and appreciation for jazz.

Schedule and Work Location Expectations

At Jazz at Lincoln Center we believe the best work happens in person through collaboration spontaneous conversation and the kind of connection that reflects the spirit of jazz itself. While we do not offer formal hybrid arrangements we approach real life with understanding: when things come up we are flexible. That said staff are expected to be on site whenever their role or schedule requires it whether that is standard hours evenings or weekends so that we can do our best work together. This is an on-site evening role with a regular schedule that can include nights weekends and holidays in alignment with Dizzys Club programming. Typical shifts begin between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM and conclude after the final set generally between 12:30 AM and 2:00 AM. Scheduling is determined on a monthly basis based on the performance calendar.
