Position Description

Job Title: Librarian/STEM Teacher

FLSA: Exempt

Job Status: Full Time

Reporting Functions: Reports to the School Principal


Job Function: A Librarian/STEM Teacher is responsible for planning delivering and assessing educational activities related to science technology engineering and mathematics. The primary focus of this role is to engage students in hands-on inquiry-based learning experiences that promote critical thinking problem-solving and a deep understanding of STEM concepts. This includes but is not limited to teaching the library classes maintaining an inventory of books and electronic equipment and cataloging all materials.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the daily operation of the school Library; provide library services to all students faculty and administration. Maintain accessibility of all materials for students and staff; catalog all materials and maintain all correspondence.

  • Develop and adapt STEM curriculum and lesson plans to meet the needs and interests of students. Deliver engaging interactive and hands-on lessons to promote student understanding and enthusiasm for STEM subjects.

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to develop writing/STEM assignments related to grade-level curriculums.

  • Maintain an inventory of all books magazines learning materials and electronic equipment including audiovisuals; perform regular housekeeping to ensure cleanliness (dust removal corrosion etc.).

  • Encourage students to ask questions think critically and solve problems independently.

  • Integrate technology tools and resources into lessons to enhance learning. Teach coding programming or other technology-related skills as appropriate.

  • Stay current with technology trends and incorporate relevant advancements into the curriculum.

  • Evaluate each students progress; keep appropriate records; prepare administer score and record results of tests in evaluating student progress; prepare progress reports and report cards.

  • Communicate with students and parents on a regular basis about schedules assignments events and individual student needs. Meet with parents during parent-teacher conferences throughout the school year.

  • Actively supervises students in hallways before after and between classes in a library in the cafeteria in bus areas and at special events ensuring safety and security.

  • Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters including social media and online platforms. Follow all policies upheld at St. Joseph the Worker School and the Allentown Diocese as per the teachers handbook.

  • Motivate students to develop skills attitudes and knowledge to provide an effective educational foundation in accordance with their abilities.

  • Manage classroom behavior and discipline in a fair and consistent manner.

  • Stay updated on the latest developments in STEM education teaching methods and educational technology.

  • Attends all required in-service training meetings and workshops. Attends and participates in faculty meetings.

  • Foster partnerships with STEM-related organizations professionals and experts for guest lectures or field trips.

  • Any other duties assigned by the Principal.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in a STEM field or Library Science.

  • PA Teaching certification.

  • Strong knowledge and proficiency in STEM concepts and curriculum development.

Other Requirements:

  • Collaborate with other teachers to plan organize and supervise an educational program set by the classroom teacher.

  • Must communicate effectively with parents students and co-workers in a positive and enthusiastic manner.

  • Possess an understanding of child development and the skills necessary to relate to the students being taught.

  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality a high degree of credibility integrity and self-confidence is essential.

PRIOR TO INTERVIEW: Clear records of Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check (PATCH) Pennsylvania Child Abuse History and Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Fingerprint Check as required under Commonwealth of Pennsylvanias Act 153 of 2014 (at least 1 year old.) As well as attendance at a Protecting Gods Children class and Mandated Reporter Training.

Physical Demands: The employee is regularly required to stand walk sit and talk or hear; frequent use of equipment including repetitive motions and computer eye fatigue; possible biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop kneel crouch or crawl lift and/or move small stacks of textbooks media equipment desks and other classroom equipment; may occasionally climb stairs or ladders. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word: hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing computer data determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surroundings and activities.


Working Conditions: Normal classroom setting with working hours of 7:45 AM to 3:15 PM; Monday through Friday. May be required to work outside normal hours to attend meetings open houses and workshops.
