Pre-Kindergarten Paraprofessional@ Mahanay Elementary

To provide opportunities for the teacher to attend to the individual needs of students. Assist staff with students at-risk of academic failure or dropping out of school.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or GED
- Qualifies for appropriate state paraprofessional certification
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Demonstrated interest in and aptitude for work to be performed
- Computer skills preferred
- Excellent organization communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multi-task activities

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
One of the primary purposes of this position is to assist in carrying out the districts goal of improving student achievement by providing assistance to students who are at-risk of academic failure or dropping out of school and/or staff who work with students at-risk of academic failure or dropping out of school.
Program Support
- Assist in carrying out the districts goal of improving student achievement by providing assistance to students who are at-risk of academic failure or dropping out of school and/or staff who work with these students.
- Check and record student attendance.
- Reproduce instructional materials.
- Type forms and instructional materials.
- Distribute and collect materials for instruction.
- Administer score and record achievement and diagnostic tests score objective-type teacher-made tests and quizzes and record grades as the teacher recommends for students.
- Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of material or skills taught by the teacher.
- Catalogue and file instructional materials and maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment and prepare orders or requisitions for needed materials.
- Read to students listen to students read and participate in other forms of oral communication with students.
- Help students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by teachers.
- Keep bulletin boards and other classroom displays up-to-date.
- Operate equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
- Assist students in the library or media center.
- Assist with the supervision of students during lunch periods assemblies play periods and transitions.
- Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information as is expected of teachers.
- Participate in in-service training programs as assigned.
Other
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
- Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on evaluation of Instructional Paraprofessional Personnel.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Tools/Equipment Used:Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals
Posture:Prolonged standing & sitting occasional kneeling/squatting bending/stooping pushing pulling and twisting
Motion:Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; may also require climbing stairs and reaching over head
Lifting:Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds); May require occasional heavy lifting and carrying (15-45 pounds)
Environment:May work prolonged or irregular hours; possible district wide travel; all campuses are temperature controlled with hard surface floors
Mental Demands:Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress

Salaries are determined by the number of completed and eligible years of service at an accredited school.
