Primary Purpose of Position:
Do you enjoy working outside and with your hands The NC State Parks has aMaintenanceConstructionTechnician III position available. This role is responsible for maintaining state park grounds buildings facilities and equipment. Position assist park rangers and additional maintenance staff performing custodial duties park boundary line clearing and maintenance trail maintenance trash collection mowing trimming prescribed burns and/or auto mechanics.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Performing a variety of skilled tasks in a trade such as plumbing carpentry electrical HVAC and facility maintenance and/or auto mechanics.
  • Operating various large and small tools and equipment.
  • Purchasing resources in accordance with state purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining preventative maintenance on various tools equipment and facilities.
  • Maintaining records and preparing operational forms.
  • Assisting in housekeeping
  • May supervise temporary and/or permanent employees including various volunteers and community service participants on special projects.
Position/Physical Requirements:
  • Typical work schedule Monday to Friday 8:00 am -5:00 pm must be able to work evenings holidays and/or weekends when necessary. This schedule may vary.
  • Must be able to perform work inside and outside in various environmental conditions with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Must have the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects with our without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to work weekends evenings and/or holidays after regular work shift as necessary.
  • Position is considered Essential/Mandatory Staff and required to work on adverse weather days during park emergencies and may be called to work on special events.
  • Must have a valid drivers license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 daysof employment.

Within 12-24 months of hire date must have the ability to obtain and maintain:
  • Class A CDL
  • CPRCertification
  • EmergencyMedicalResponderCertification
  • WildlandFireSuppressionCertifications
  • Certified inS212 Chainsaw Operations Training -perform hazardous treeassessments andif necessary treeremoval within the park.
  • C-Well Certification (notall parkswillrequire thiscertification)
  • Subsurface Wastewater Treatment Certification (not all parks will require this certification)

Knowledge Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Management Prefers:

  • Demonstrated work experience performing trades in at least twoof the following: carpentry plumbing electrical and/or auto mechanics;
  • Demonstrated experience in performing grounds maintenance/landscaping;
  • Demonstrated experience in the operation and repair of grounds maintenance equipment such as mowers tractors weed eaters and/or chainsaws;
  • Demonstrated experience in performing maintenance on buildings facilities and/or equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience reading and/or interpreting blueprints/structural specifications and/or building codes.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma

AND

two (2) years of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience.


Necessary Special Qualification:May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I II III or Universal technician as required by Title 40 Code of Federal Regulations Part 82 Subpart F.
