Job Description Summary
Under minimal supervision this position assists with training laboratory employees evaluating staff competency and completing training documentation. This position performs automated and manual testing on donor blood samples to ensure the safety potency and purity of the blood supply as required by the regulatory agencies. Coordinates and supervises training assisting in scheduling planning designing developing implementing and measuring effectiveness of technical training and education programs.
Job Description
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs all assigned duties in compliance with internal SOPs and external regulations. Brings compliance issues to the attention of management.
- Assures quality customer service to all customers.
- Maintains acceptable attendance and punctuality per the absence policy.
- Coordinates and delivers technical training (e.g. SOPs technical job skills and competency/proficiency evaluations). Ensures appropriate time is provided for training and provides any necessary follow up.
- May assist with coordination of workflow training and mentoring of trainees.
- Monitors staff compliance to SOP FDA and AABB standards; takes appropriate corrective action or reports problems to the Manager or Director. Reports training activities and progress to management
- Reviews employee training records to ensure accuracy and completion. Maintains records in the learning management system.
- Assists Training Department personnel with development and updating technical skill training programs monitors trainee progress advises on placement and oversees follow-up training.
- Assists in the development and analysis of local training needs assessments.
- Interfaces with Quality Management/Regulatory Affairs for training audits.
- Remains competent in laboratory testing.
- Performs donor sample testing in compliance with regulatory requirements. Recognizes and identifies testing irregularities equipment problems errors and other potential problems that may adversely affect test performance or results. Troubleshoots and implements corrective actions. Reports problems to management.
- Maintains awareness and follows all safety procedures as outlined by the organization.
- Maintains knowledge of training methods and adult learning principles to serve as a resource for the department.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of training programs/materials and makes suggestions for changes.
- Provides feedback to employees on their progress during the training phase. Works with the department supervisor to provide the feedback and adjustments to training plans for individuals as needed.
- Performs all other duties at the discretion of management as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: Bachelors in related area required or science related degree where education and training meet CFR 493.1489.
- Demonstrated senior level proficiency on multiple platforms/benches as documented on the competency assessment
- Trained to perform high level and complex troubleshooting on multiple platforms/benches
- Knowledge of technical blood banking or pharmaceutical activities and an understanding of federal state and local regulations affecting technical activities
- Knowledge of GMP quality management theory and practices.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two years relevant experience
- Six years experience (with certification or seven years without) working in clinical or GMP laboratory environment preferred. (Florida only)
- Must satisfy CLIA requirements for High Complexity Testing preferred. (Florida only)
- Appropriate state licensure and/or certificate where applicable preferred. (Florida only)
- MT ASCP (or equivalent) Specialty certification preferred. (Florida only)
- Knowledge of training development and implementation

- Must possess the skills and abilities to successfully perform all assigned duties and responsibilities.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work in a team environment and participate as an active team member.
- Must have proficient computer skills.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Able to organize prioritize and execute a variable workload and multiple priorities.
PHYSICAL & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
- 5 hours per shift: Sitting Standing Handling. Finger dexterity Pinching
- 3- 5 hours per shift: Lifting to 40 pounds
- Up to 3 hours per shift: Walking Climbing bending squatting reaching above shoulders reaching waist to shoulder reaching knee to waist reaching floor to knee grasping items carrying/move items up to 40 pounds
