The City of Richmond Public Library (RPL) seeks a dynamic enthusiastic and hardworking person to join their team as a Part-time Temporary Library Technician - Read with Ripple. The incumbent will be a self-motivated individual who is a self-starter excellent communicator and listener team player problem solver and most importantly exudes exceptional customer service. The selected candidate will join a dynamic team of individuals focused on providing excellent prompt and accurate services to both external and internal customers while achieving the following mission: Inform Enrich Empower.
This position is a part-time (20 hours/week) role at RPL. This position will work under the direct supervision of the Read with Ripple Program Coordinator and in close collaboration with the RPL YouthService Coordinator.
This class supports the Read with Ripple Program. As assigned work may include data gathering basic analysis developing recommendations and reports. May assist senior analytical staff and supervisors/managers; serving as a liaison to functions outside of the department updating and maintaining databases; recommending changes drafting language and ensuring dissemination of same ensuring program functions and events are coordinated as structured.
The position requires a professional and engaging approach to literacy work. Incumbent will work closely with literacy partners from schools to daycares across the city. Position requires the ability to build and maintain relations with volunteers and professionals. Experience managing volunteers is desired. May represent RPL at meetings.

This position is considered an Essential Personnel which means that the incumbent is required to work when the City is closed due to public emergencies critical or hazardous conditions or inclement weather.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
The individual can independently perform a variety of tasks in support of a program operation or work unit. Responsibilities include coordinating planning and implementing a program component within a specialized program profession or area (Read with Ripple). The position serves as a principal program support resource regarding processes and procedures applicable to the program. Under general supervision positions in this class receive occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise. Individual has some knowledge of Early Literacy and/or Child Development skills and concepts.
The individual is comfortable using computer programs such as Microsoft Office Suites (Word Excel Publisher PowerPoint Outlook etc.) The individual knows how to use standard office equipment. The individual can follow the City Librarys procedures and policies.
The individual can demonstrate skills on excellent customer service great interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills. The individual will assist in training volunteers.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Due to the nature of work assignments incumbents must be able to perform detailed work on multiple concurrent tasks with frequent interruptions and under time constraint. The essential duties of this classification may require the ability to regularly talk hear see perform repetitive motions stand finger and walk; frequently reach grasp lift pull and push; and occasionally climb stoop crouch and feel. The working conditions may contain environmental terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties this classification is considered to be light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally up to 10 pounds of force frequently and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
