BASIC FUNCTION:
The position is responsible for leading the development and implementation of the CRONOS (Cryogenic Research fOr NOvel Sensors) facility TRIUMFs new cryogenic facility targeted towards astroparticle physics research (BeEST & SuperCDMS) and detector R&D.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for the operation and upkeep of the CRONOS facility.
- Responsible for the implementation of any new facility upgrade (from calibration techniques upgrades to novel detectors).
- Oversight and coordination of the scientific throughput of the CRONOS facility including opportunities to drive individual R&D efforts.
- Assist with the administrative workload ensuring the appropriate document are produced and stored.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
The incumbent will be expected to directly supervise students at the undergraduate levels no direct supervision will be required above the previously mentioned level. Provides guidance training and mentorship for more junior employees.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
The incumbent must have the following knowledge and skills:
- Expert level knowledge of cryogenic systems and their operational requirements radiation detectors and their operational requirements vacuum systems and leak-checking techniques.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Strong communication and documentation skills
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:
- A Ph.D in Physics or a MS.c. in Engineering
- A minimum of 8 years of related experience post-graduation
- Strong experience in working with cryogenic systems (dilution fridges custom designed cryostats)
- Experience in designing cryogenics systems
- Experience and proficiency in computer systems and office software
