Title: Equipment and Facilities Technician III
Job Classification: Hourly Non-Exempt
Department: Operations (Plus all Building Maintenance)
Reports To: Facilities and Maintenance Manager
General purpose of Job: On going technical setup and maintenance of grounds buildings and machinery.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the technical maintenance and adjustment of the lettershop and bindery/finishing equipment.
- Can lead and support technicians on machinejob setup and tuning to achieve optimal performance.
- Excellent knowledge of equipment and machines and the mechanical operation of equipment. Requires knowledge of mechanical and electrical functioning of machinery serviced and ability to troubleshoot malfunctions and identify worn out parts.
- Strong knowledge of troubleshooting equipment issues that are not readily apparent or where manufacturer supplied manuals are not available.
- Ability to source substituted or upgraded parts for obsolete items on equipment.
- Strong understanding of electrical controls drives and mechanical schematics. Ability to interpret instruction manuals.
- Knowledge of equipment programming.
- Can assist in equipment installation and upgrades.
- Assisting in equipment and process improvements including procedures.
- Strong knowledge of the tools and test equipment used in the diagnosis and repair of equipment serviced.
- Conduct routine inspections of the premises to detect malfunctions and/or needed repairs while taking notes and making recommendations using a preestablished check sheet.
- Perform routine scheduled maintenance such as cleaning oiling and replacement of worn parts.
- Maintain an inventory of spare parts and submit orders for parts as needed to ensure continuous operation of equipment.
- Ability to document and manage workorders in a CMMS. (Computerized Maintenance Management System)
- Follow the safety and chemical procedures.
- Perform minor carpentry maintenance.
- Perform minor electrical maintenance to include replacement of fixtures (e.g. wall switches and outlets incandescent and fluorescent bulbs) using appropriate hand and power tools
- Perform non-technical plumbing maintenance to include standard repair of leaking fixtures cleaning obstructed waste lines and perform non-technical modifications to plumbing and water supply systems
- Install position and remount modular offices and space (e.g. furniture wall panels work surfaces storage bins lighting file cabinets etc.) to accommodate user needs and maximize office space using various hand power and specialty tools dollies and hand trucks.
- Perform general maintenance custodial and trash removal tasks.
- Keep sidewalks and parking lot free of snow and ice.
- Document facilities maintenance requirements and maintain appropriate records of work performed.
- Keep production and maintenance areas clean at all times. Following 5S
- Any other duties assigned by supervisor.
Performance Measurement: Performance feedback will take place both verbally and written on a day-to-day as needed basis recognition in monthly employee recognition meetings formal training on changes in SOP as needed with a formal review by the supervisor at least annually
Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent and ability to read and write basic English; trade school a plus
- 7 years electronic and mechanical troubleshooting experience on automated manufacturing equipment
- Previous experience roll stands direct mail bindery and/or fulfillment industry on high speed inserters. Ehrets and/or Staahl equipment preferred
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to quickly learn machine operations
- Previous participation on a safety team and/or other safety training a plus
- Basic computer skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Lean manufacturing and/or quality control training preferred
- Must be able to work OT as needed
- Must be willing to rotate to other shifts as needed to train existing and new Technicians
- Pre-employment physical drug screen and background check required
Physical Demands:
Often standing or walking may climb balance stoop kneel crouch or crawl. Often lift up to 40 lbs & sometimes up to 70 lbs. Use hands to finger handle or feel. Reach with hands and arms. Vision requirements are close vision distance vision peripheral vision & ability to focus.
Work Environment:
Work near moving mechanical parts fumes & air borne particles risk of electrical shock and exposure to toxic chemicals. The noise level is moderate to loud.
