Librarian I Childrens- Education (Two Positions) The Lexington Public Library (LPL) is a dynamic organization that strives to educate entertain and connect all people who live work or play in the greater Lexington area. This position is responsible for planning presenting and evaluating engaging story times and enrichment programs in local childcare centers preschools and after-school programs. Work may be performed in public and non-public areas; hours of work are dependent upon the service hours of the particular unit. Salary Range $46535.00 - $65800.00 (starting salary will depend upon skills and experience) Primary Work Schedule Monday-Friday 9am - 5pm. As a Librarian I Childrens- Education a typical day may include the following - Develop deliver and evaluate interactive story time sessions and age-appropriate literacy-based programs to children in offsite settings (may interact with caregivers to provide library and literacy information)
- Foster partnerships with childcare providers educators caregivers and youth-serving organizations to assist in coordinating outreach visits and promotion of library and early childhood literacy services
- Promote reading readiness school-age engagement and lifelong learning through songs books movement activities and hands-on projects
- Curate and transport collections of books and materials to support program themes and community needs
- Represent the library in the community with professionalism enthusiasm and cultural sensitivity
- Interact and communicate pleasantly and effectively with diverse customers and staff
- Reporting statistics and feedback to help evaluate program impact
- Assist with special events library promotions and other outreach initiatives as needed.
- Stay current on early childhood education and youth programming trends through professional development and training
- Interact positively with children and have an understanding of developmental needs
- Provide friendly and courteous service
- Interpret and explain LPL policies procedures and resources to customers and staff.
- Participate in and represent LPL at local regional state and national professional conferences and events.
- Maintain an awareness of trends and developments within the profession.
- Works in conjunction with programming staff to coordinate programming across the system.
- Reviews and edits programming publicity such as calendars Facebook postings program descriptions and more.
- Monitors programs for performance/trends and assembles statistics useful for decision-making.
- Tracks and monitors programming budgets.

- Possession of a Bachelors Degree or an equivalent combination of education certification training and/or experience which provides the required knowledge skills and abilities.
- Skill in working effectively as part of a group as well as working independently with little direction
- Comfort working in offsite locations

- Ability to communicate clearly accurately concisely and effectively both verbally and in writing
- Strong interpersonal skills to work with other staff the public and community partners
- Knowledge of books and authors
- Position is community-facing and requires flexibility creativity and a passion for public service. Programs take place in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings involving children ages preschool and up.

Physical and Mental Requirements - Ability to sit and operate a computer for extended periods.
- Sufficient mobility and dexterity to handle library materials.
- Ability to perform essential functions which require bending standing stooping and lifting moderately heavy boxes of books and standing for long periods.
- Ability to work without sitting for a minimum of two hours at a time and during that time is able to move with reasonable speed to locations throughout the workplace in order to accomplish job service duties.
