The Cybersecurity team manages all strategies policies guidelines processes and systems that ensure the confidentiality integrity and availability of TRIUMFs electronic environment and protection of TRIUMFs research and institutional data
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership & Team Management:
- Lead teams in designing and developing complex solutions and business information systems.
- Engage in strategic planning exercises along with other IS&T leadership members;
- Build liaisons between the Cybersecurity team and the larger TRIUMF populace;
- Develop resource plans for continued growth and development of Cybersecurity team members;
- Serve as project lead and/or subject matter expert for complex infrastructure and cybersecurity solution selection and implementation; data governance protection and loss prevention; systems design; solutions development; and cross-functional software and system integration projects;
- Manage fiscal processes including budgeting and procurement related to the Cybersecurity solutions and teams
- Plan outage and maintenance schedules and actively participating in organizational change management processes as defined in the TRIUMF Security Policy to ensure all changes and deployments are well-planned and validated to reduce risk;
- Engage with the Research Security Officer to help develop and ensure adherence to Research Security guidelines and compliance requirements for all systems solutions and environments managed within TRIUMF;
- Lead the team in generating and maintaining appropriate documentation and processes for the Cybersecurity team including documentation of systems and services updates to the IS&T risk registry incident management documentation insurance documentation and other documentation and processes as required;
Solutions architecture:
- Design and develop solutions for complex TRIUMF-wide cybersecurity requirements;
- Ensure all enterprise and IS&T systems are built following secure principles and standards of practice in line with the foundations of cybersecurity
- Identify data governance and security requirements for existing and new cybersecurity applications;
- Define software and hardware architectures to ensure consistent and manageable delivery of cybersecurity solutions;
- Recommend methods for the capture and transmission of data and the form and content of output including log transformation threat analysis data and more;
- Define secure system administration and secure systems development best practices for TRIUMF environments;
- Work with other Group Leads within IS&T and TRIUMF to provide input on hardening of hardware architectures and cybersecurity best practices for TRIUMF environments;
- Ensure the protection and security of TRIUMF data assets.
Systems Analysis:
- Engage with stakeholders to identify and track research business and technical requirements including requirements capital and resource costs related to cybersecurity and data loss prevention;
- Manage key technical deliverables for core cybersecurity systems and services;
- Ensure cybersecurity solutions (both built in-house and leveraging 3rd-party solutions) meet and align with TRIUMF strategic goals and expected outcomes
Collaboration:
- Collaborate with others within and across units to solve technical issues manage reported incidents and build resilience through awareness training and common technical safeguards;
- Consult and collaborate with stakeholders to confirm plans in the context of overall TRIUMF technology planning to identify their cybersecurity needs and to provide practical solutions;
- Collaborate with IS&T staff particularly Enterprise Systems and Solutions Architects on major initiatives such as business continuity planning succession planning disaster recovery data management and governance and enterprise architecture.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Supervises the other members of the Cybersecurity team. This includes internal and 3rd party or contract resources Incident Response (IR) engagements and other cybersecurity solutions providers and may have project-based resources assigned for supervision as required. Is responsible for coaching and performance management and reviews of staff within the group.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Leadership Skills:
- Minimum 5 years progressive experience leading cybersecurity teams with responsibility for complex research environments;
- Demonstrated experience coaching and managing teams in a complex technical environment
- Must have the ability to work under pressure and multi-task and the capability to assess analyze and resolve challenging IT issues
- Strong experience working in agile development environments and aligning teams to agile best practices
- Must possess strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment or independently.
- Must be able to right-size communications for the intended audience which can include executives partners researchers vendors and other technical teams.
- Technical Skills:
- Demonstrated experienced with managing cybersecurity tools and solutions across multiple stacks/environments;
- Experience in building and managing Security Operations Centers (SOCs);
- Strong experience required in managing cybersecurity considerations in hybrid environments (on-prem cloud multi-tenant etc.) and have experience designing cybersecurity systems and processes to protect a cross-platform environment (Windows/Mac/Linux/IoT/SBC/HPC);
- Must have strong knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST CIS or ISO27001 or similar and experience developing implementation roadmaps;
- Experience developing managing and tracking effectiveness of cybersecurity training and awareness programs required;
- Experience in KPI development compliance management and reporting related to NIST CIS or ISO27001 or similar strongly recommended;
- Strong knowledge of automation software and system management tools;
- Experience in Linux and Windows systems administration a plus;
- Experience in secure software development lifecycle (SSDLC) and security test automation a plus;
- Experience in managing and automating production of technical documentation
- Must have demonstrated experience migrating workloads to and managing cloud-based SaaS/PaaS/IaaS environments;
- Experience working with networking teams to design and implement secure networking infrastructure and zero trust environments required;
- Experience with large scale data processing and data analytics tools a plus;
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:
- Requires a degree in Information Technology and at least 8-10 years of relevant experience and demonstrated leadership ability or the equivalent combination of education training and experience.
- CISSPCISM or equivalent cybersecurity certifications preferred.
- Considering the criticality of the role and access to sesitive data this role requires to undergo a background check.
