Description

The Costume Shop Foreperson supports the daily operations of the costume shop the Professor of Costume Design and the BFA Costume Design Majors for The Conservatory for The Performing Arts at Stephens College. This is a part-time hourly position.


Responsibilities

  • Act as a supervisor to students working in the costume shop.
  • Offer support and advice on student projects in various roles (Cutter/Draper Stitcher Craftsperson etc.).
  • Supports the completion of both made-to-order and pulled costumes for the stage.
  • Supports productions and completion of designs within scheduled deadlines as well as day to day shop operations.
  • Attend fittings as necessary.
  • Possibly attend tech rehearsals as discussed with Professor of Costume Design.
  • Acts as a liaison with Stage Management for fittings and production notes.
  • Acts as a liaison with Wardrobe Head for the smooth transition of the costumes from Shop to dress rehearsal.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Professor of Costume Design.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of and general experience in theatrical cutting stitching and crafts.
  • Basic knowledge of costume history.
  • Knowledge of costume materials.
  • Knowledge of sewing techniques and how to use a sewing machine.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • BFA in Costume Design preferred.
