Wide Angle programs inspire creativity and instill confidence in young people empowering them with skills to navigate school career and life.
Position Summary: Wide Angle Youth Media is currently hiring an outgoing dynamic and team-oriented part-time High School Design Lead Media Educator to facilitate the following program:
- Lead Media Instruction (15-20 hours per week during the academic year*) - facilitate our High School Graphic Design Class on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-7:30pm.
*Summer hours may vary depending on the summer program roster and available workshops.

THE PART-TIME HIGH SCHOOL DESIGN LEAD MEDIA EDUCATOR - is responsible for the following:
Curriculum development and Co-Teaching
- Designing a robust media curriculum with the support of the Education Specialist and assistant educator to engage and excite youth through hands-on experiences with graphic design storytelling and performance.
- All curriculum must be designed to meet national standards for media arts education and STEM identified here.
- Support Assistant Educators in gaining teaching skills such as public speaking student interventions presentation of a unit of study and classroom management through a co-teaching model.
- Frequent communication with Program Management on student work physical needs and additional supports
- Classroom management: Using CHAMPS framework (or similar proactive behavior strategy) to articulate student learning and behavior expectations throughout the class.
- Work with the Equipment coordinator to reserve cameras iPads laptops lighting and other technology needs for class.
- Transport (check out transport to class return) and oversee the use of equipment during class sessions.
- Communicate with Parents/guardians to celebrate student success and collaboratively address student needs.
- Regular and consistent communication and updates with families /students about programming and class overall.
- Substituting and supporting other educators in the classroom when needed and reasonably notified.
Reporting
- Maintain accurate Daily Attendance records via Sawyer
- Frequent communication with Program Management and on student work physical needs and additional supports
- Assess monitor and report on individual student growth through the use of Growth Cards Weekly Check-ins Behind the Scenes content and Weekly Update
Community Engagement and Outreach
- Participate in community engagement events such as tabling at Resource Fairs distributing flyers and school events to promote student work and recruit new students.
- Attend required program events organize and lead family night and closing events for program sites and support and engage students and families as needed about the upcoming class.
Organization Wide Responsibilities
- Attend annual retreat planning and strategic planning as required.
- Attend Twice monthly Staff meetings Mondays from 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
- Attend weekly program meetings.
- Attend bi-weekly HS meetings.
The following skills/traits are required for the position:
- Advanced experience (2-5 years of experience) facilitating/teaching high school students and/or working with racially and ethnically diverse and/or historically minoritized and marginalized communities.
- Advanced experience (2-5 years of experience) with creating digital media including but not limited to: photography videography design animation or illustration.

- Experience with lesson planning collaborative planning and student growth evaluation.
- Resourcefulness in learning/using available technology with middle school students including iPads DSLR cameras Macbooks
- Curriculum and/or artistic practices that center bipoc artists and reflect anti-racist/anti-oppressive pedagogy
- Holds high expectations for each student and works to foster student achievement through building individual relationships
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff parents young people volunteers and community.
- Familiarity with basic computer operations: email word-processing spreadsheets and basic graphics.
- Experience with curricula development positive behavior interventions and evaluating project success.

This part-time hourly position offers a starting wage between $20.76 to $22.50 per hour depending on education media/work samples and years of professional addition to a positive organizational culture our comprehensive benefits package for this position includes the following:
