The CLPNA exists to protect Alberta healthcare users. Our first responsibility is to the public. We regulate the profession of Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) setting and maintaining standards to ensure the public receives safe competent and ethical healthcare services. The CLPNA has partnered with Alberta Health to lead the development and the continued operations of the Alberta Health Care Aide (HCA) Alberta HCAs are not a regulated profession although HCAs will become regulated under the Health Professions Act in the future.
This is a short-term contract position with an end date of January 31 2026. The position will be fully remote with a requirement to attend online web conferencing as required.
The HCA Communication Curriculum Subject Matter Expert (SME) will develop content for an eLearning module that focuses on professional communication in the workplace including conflict resolution difficult conversations and de-escalation strategies for HCAs in Alberta. This module will include theoretical content interactive activities quizzes case studies reflective strategies and a final exam all within established timelines. The module will be designed for self-paced learning by adult learners.
The SME will collaborate closely with the Director of Professional Development and the eLearning Designer to ensure the eLearning module is comprehensive and adheres to adult learning principles accessibility standards curriculum design best practices HCA competencies and regulatory standards.
As an HCA Communication Curriculum Subject Matter Expert you play a key role in the creation of a high-quality educational eLearning module to develop the competencies of HCAs in professional communication conflict resolution managing difficult conversations and providing them with de-escalation strategies. You have extensive experience and expertise as an instructor in professional communications as well as with curriculum and instructional design development in healthcare.
You have experience collaborating with a diverse team of professionals and understand the HCA role. You are exceptional at managing multiple tasks adhering to milestones standards and deadlines. You are goal-oriented and able to work independently as well as with a team with a positive professional and solution-oriented attitude. You understand the importance of confidentiality exercise good judgment and demonstrate decision-making skills. You are knowledgeable about the HCA Competency Profile curriculum education trends and the issues that may affect HCAs.
